{"id":84499,"date":"2020-10-28T08:41:08","date_gmt":"2020-10-28T08:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=84499"},"modified":"2020-10-28T08:41:08","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T08:41:08","slug":"hs2-canterbury-works-headhouse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/hs2-canterbury-works-headhouse\/84499\/","title":{"rendered":"HS2 unveils designs for  Canterbury works vent shaft headhouse"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hs2.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HS2<\/a> has revealed its designs for the Canterbury works vent shaft headhouse and compound, one of four structures that will be built to provide ventilation and emergency access to the high speed rail<\/h2>\n<p>Below ground level, a 40-metre deep <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/hs2-vent-shaft-headhouse-revealed\/79915\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ventilation shaft<\/a> will reach down to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/tunnel-boring-machines-2\/83742\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">twin tunnels<\/a> below, with fans and other equipment above ground designed to regulate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/hs2-air-quality-plans\/83605\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">air quality<\/a> and temperature, remove smoke in the event of a fire and provide access for the emergency services.<\/p>\n<p>A variety of materials used in the design, with dark grey engineering brick, and grey softwood timber making up much of the structure.<\/p>\n<p>Situated behind Canterbury Road and Canterbury Terrace, the structure will be visible from the existing network rail lines and local properties.<\/p>\n<p>The headhouse features and the materials chosen are designed to embed the building within the local townscape.<\/p>\n<p>The structure will be surrounded by planting, with a mixture of tree and shrub species creating an enhanced bio-diverse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/hs2-will-cost-nature-too-much\/70152\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">habitat for wildlife<\/a>.
