business units will achieve Living Wage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livingwage.org.uk\/recognised-service-providers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Recognised Service Provider<\/a> (RSP) status within five years<\/h2>\n<p>The announcement, made during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livingwage.org.uk\/living-wage-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Living Wage Week<\/a>, means that by 2025, all Wates clients will be requested to consider the Living Wage for their contracts, with a target of 80% of all new contracts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/morgan-sindall-living-wage\/84076\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">paying the real Living Wage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Living Wage pledge is part of Wates\u2019 commitment to challenging inequality, one of three key themes comprising the company\u2019s new five-year social value strategy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wates.co.uk\/who-we-are\/sustainability\/social-value\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Creating Opportunities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside challenging inequality, the strategy focuses on inspiring and educating young people about careers in the built environment and supporting and scaling the social enterprise sector.<\/p>\n<h3>Commitments and targets for 2025:<\/h3>\n<h4>Challenging inequality<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Create opportunities for those furthest from the workforce, employing at least one person from an identified group* on every Wates project<\/li>\n<li>Lead the construction sector in striving for fairer payment by Wates Group achieving Living Wage Recognised Service Provider status (RSP).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Inspiring and educating young people about careers in the built environment<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Inspire 25,000 young people about careers in construction and the built environment by 2025<\/li>\n<li>Launch a new primary school engagement programme, <a href=\"https:\/\/ccsbestpractice.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Case-Study-Wates.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Build Yourself: Junior<\/a>, to help encourage children to consider construction as a career at a younger age<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Supporting and scaling the social enterprise sector<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Spend \u00a325m with the social enterprise sector, resulting in a\u00a0cumulative total of \u00a345m by 2025<\/li>\n<li>Pilot a new Mentoring for Growth programme in 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/take-a-minute\/82238\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">supporting Wates employees<\/a> so they can act as business mentors to help at least five identified Social Enterprises to achieve national scale by 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Considering social value in business decisions<\/h3>\n<p>Wates Group chief executive, David Allen, said: \u201cAt Wates we are driven by our purpose of working together to inspire better ways of creating the places, communities and businesses of tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Delivering social value is intrinsic to that purpose and to our goal of being a progressive and responsible employer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By considering social value in our business decisions, including the way we employ staff, engage with communities and buy products and services, we can cultivate a more sustainable and inclusive society, and demonstrate that business done well can be a force for good.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This social value strategy is rooted in our belief that how we do business, is as important as what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sebastian Bachelier, programme manager \u2013 Recognised Service Providers, Living Wage Foundation, added: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to welcome Wates Residential and Wates Development to the movement of nearly 7,000 responsible employers across the UK who have voluntarily committed to championing the real Living Wage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During Living Wage Week it\u2019s right that we recognise those employers, like Wates that have stepped up during an incredibly challenging time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These are the employers who will lead us out of the crisis and allow us to rebuild and recover.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is also very encouraging to see the Wates Group commit to becoming a Recognised Service Provider in the next 5 years while setting themselves an ambitious target for their new contracts.\u201d<\/p>\n<div
