{"id":85702,"date":"2020-11-24T09:44:16","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T09:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=85702"},"modified":"2020-11-24T09:44:16","modified_gmt":"2020-11-24T09:44:16","slug":"jobcentre-plus-south-shields","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/jobcentre-plus-south-shields\/85702\/","title":{"rendered":"GMI to build new Jobcentre Plus for South Shields"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/gmiconstructiongroup.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GMI Construction<\/a> has been awarded a contract by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musedevelopments.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Muse Developments<\/a> to construct a new 12,000 sq ft office for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-work-pensions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department for Work and Pensions<\/a> in South Shields<\/h2>\n<p>The contract will see construction of a new purpose-built <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breeam.com\/BREEAM2011SchemeDocument\/Content\/03_ScoringRating\/scoring.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BREEAM \u2018Very good\u2019 rated building<\/a> which will serve as the town\u2019s new relocated Jobcentre Plus.<\/p>\n<p>Approved by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southtyneside.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">South Tyneside Council<\/a>, it will feature as part of the wider repurposing of South Shields town centre.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme will see the current branch in Barrington Street moved to the new purpose-built facility on Mile End Road.<\/p>\n<p>Muse has been working with South Tyneside Council to deliver the council\u2019s 365 Regeneration masterplan, which has brought forward two statement schemes; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/development-in-south-shield\/75715\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">South Shields<\/a> Interchange, and the National Centre for the Written Word \u2013 The Word.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme is anticipated to start on site later in the year, with a 12-month build programme.<\/p>\n<h3>Continuing to transform the town centre<\/h3>\n<p>Lee Powell, GMI divisional managing director, said: \u201cWe are pleased to have been awarded this important new build contract by Muse Developments and to continue GMI\u2019s successful partnership and affinity with them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also pleased to be working with the DWP for the first time and to be delivering for South Tyneside Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project complements our portfolio of completed public sector office buildings, including the successful delivery of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rotherham.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council<\/a>\u2019s 200,000 sq ft state of the art civic centre and offices, as well as 33 Wellington Street office building in Leeds for our client <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lancashire.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lancashire County Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We look forward to delivering the project on time and on budget and working with the full project team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David Wells, regional director at Muse Developments, added: \u201cEveryone involved with the South Shields scheme has been working tirelessly to make sure the scheme delivers for our partners at the council and the DWP and we\u2019re delighted to get approval for the new facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis building is key to our collective ambition to deliver a new repurposed town centre.
