{"id":86081,"date":"2020-12-02T09:47:33","date_gmt":"2020-12-02T09:47:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=86081"},"modified":"2020-12-02T09:47:33","modified_gmt":"2020-12-02T09:47:33","slug":"welsh-mmc-housing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/welsh-mmc-housing\/86081\/","title":{"rendered":"Welsh Government invests \u00a335m into MMC housing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.wales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Welsh Government<\/a>\u2019s Innovative Housing Programme funding is focused on Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), using Welsh timber and supply chains to support its green recovery<\/h2>\n<p>Housing and local government minister, Julie James, said: \u201cThis \u00a335m investment will deliver 400 factory-built homes, all of which will be produced by local Welsh companies and their supply chains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Innovative Housing Programme shows what we can achieve together; manufacturing homes in factories means that we can continue to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/modern-methods-of-construction-guide\/63966\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">build affordable homes<\/a>, regardless of our weather or the impact of a pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are building back greener, delivering a stable supply of homes in unstable economic times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to building more high-quality homes in factories here in Wales.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clwydalyn.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clwyd Alyn Housing Association<\/a> has shown what we can achieve together. With local suppliers, they have built 38 timber-framed, low carbon homes with extremely low running costs which will put more money in tenant\u2019s pockets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPartnering with Williams Homes, a Bala-based company, means the frames were all manufactured locally. This created six training opportunities and helped Welsh businesses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/modular-construction-news\/modern-methods-of-construction-post-covid\/84417\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">using modern methods of construction to grow<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m pleased to see residents are now moving in to these fantastic homes and seeing the benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Funding for projects include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>ClwydAlyn are building 63 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/opportunity-to-build-back-better\/84312\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">timber frame homes<\/a> to be whole life zero-carbon, built by a Welsh MMC firm. The firm will be offering training opportunities for groups that struggle to secure employment opportunities;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a33m for Pobl Group to build over 90 zero-carbon social homes in Blaenau Gwent, by a Valley\u2019s based MMC producer, using timber frame design;<\/li>\n<li>Tai Tarian will build 55 new homes and retrofit 72 existing ones <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/talbot-gateway-regeneration-scheme\/76878\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in Port Talbot<\/a>, increasing energy efficiency and reducing fuel bills for tenants.
