awarded a \u00a3107.5m infrastructure contract at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton Gateway (SLPNG)<\/h2>\n<p>Winvic started the main infrastructure works at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton Gateway (SLPNG), a 450-acre multi-modal logistics hub located next to junction 15 of the M1.<\/p>\n<p>The project has been designated as a \u2018Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project\u2019 (NSIP) and the infrastructure works comprise the 35-acre SRFI \u2013 capable of handling 16, 775m long trains a day \u2013 new rail connections and significant improvements to the strategic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/local-roads-network\/59244\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">road network<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When complete, the development will comprise five million square feet of modern, highly sustainable industrial facilities and a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI).<\/p>\n<p>This work \u2013 including major upgrades to junctions 15 and 15a on the M1, a new bridge over the West Coast Mainline, the construction of a bypass around Roade, improvements to the A45 and safer junctions along the A508 \u2013 will be delivered by Winvic in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/highwaysengland.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Highways England<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Network Rail<\/a> and local authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Winvic will also undertake an extensive landscaping programme with over 80-acres of parkland and amenity grassland, 18km of footpaths and cycleways, 20km of hedgerows and the planting of 60,000 new trees.<\/p>\n<p>Since Summer 2020, Winvic has been conducting enabling works for SEGRO, which include ecology, archaeology and geotechnical site investigations to prepare the site ahead of this next phase.<\/p>\n<h3>Works beginning in January include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Demolition of existing unsafe buildings and removal of vegetation<\/li>\n<li>Ecological improvements, such as hedge translocation and badger sett relocation<\/li>\n<li>Exploratory service digging and service diversions<\/li>\n<li>Commencement of initial earthworks \u2013 involving stripping of topsoil and cut and fill \u2013 at Junction 15 of the M1<\/li>\n<li>Earthworks and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/housebuilders-sustainable-water-management\/54325\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">water management<\/a> operations for the industrial unit plateaus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to delivering road and rail improvements for the region, the scheme will create around 7,500 direct jobs, with around 120 being created during the infrastructure construction phase.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018No stranger to delivering Strategic Rail Freight schemes\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Rob Cook, civils partnership is a proven success on similar large-scale schemes \u2013 such as SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway \u2013 and Winvic is therefore no stranger to delivering Strategic Rail Freight schemes and managing cross-agency liaison \u2013 such as coordinating with local authorities and Highways England to mitigate disruption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApart from this being a significant and exciting project, it\u2019s fantastic be working in the town where our head office is located and to be able to deliver a substantial local employment skills programme with SEGRO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe enabling works we have managed to date have been delivered to schedule and the team is now very much looking forward to the 2021 main infrastructure phase on the 450-acre Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Pilsworth, SEGRO\u2019s managing director of national logistics, added: \u201cThe start of construction at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton Gateway is an businesses need well located, sustainable facilities from which they can meet their customers\u2019 demands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSEGRO Park Northampton Gateway is perfectly located with easy access to key road networks and with the new rail links and Strategic Rail Freight Interchange, will present great opportunities for businesses to flourish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first plots are scheduled to be ready for construction to start in late 2021 and infrastructure works are anticipated to be completed by the end of 2023.<\/p>\n<div
