long-heralded as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/standards-for-uk-housebuilders\/85167\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">future of housebuilding<\/a>, but if the arguments for homes to be manufactured like cars are so compelling, why is factory-built housing not more common?<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the question \u2018Modern methods of construction: building on experience\u2019 examines<em>, <\/em>by scrutinising notable periods of transformation in the industry and exploring the elements of design, as well as the social and economic influences, that fuel change.<\/p>\n<p>The report also looks at the history of non-traditional housing through a range of different technologies and advancements since the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century and how builders and developers can harness technological advances to respond to the increasing demand for new homes.<\/p>\n<h3>An enabler of change for the industry<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/stakeholders\/nhbc-warranty-insurance\/81202\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NHBC<\/a>\u2019s head of standards, innovation and research, Richard Smith, said: \u201cAs we navigate the Covid-19 pandemic and come out of the EU, there is an opportunity to innovate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This new report looks at the best features of homes from the past to inform the homes of the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really hope that \u2018Modern methods of construction: building on experience\u2019 will ultimately be an enabler of change for the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Standards for UK housebuilders<\/h3>\n<p>The release of this report follows the NHBC Foundation&#8217;s recent launch of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhbc.co.uk\/builders\/products-and-services\/techzone\/nhbc-standards\/standards-2021\/?utm_medium=media&amp;utm_source=press_release&amp;utm_campaign=standards_2021&amp;utm_content=november_launch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2021 standards for UK housebuilders<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The standards for UK housebuilders went into effect for every new home covered by an\u00a0NHBC warranty
