Brighton and Hove Council<\/a> has given Alumno<\/a> the green light to deliver purpose-built student accommodation on Brighton\u2019s Lewes Road<\/h2>\n

The purpose-built student accommodation<\/a> will house the city\u2019s screen and film school students, and Alumno will work closely with the college to create a movie theme for the building that will appeal to its attendees.<\/p>\n

The residence will also be available to students of other local education establishments.<\/p>\n

Up to 60 students will be accommodated in the new development\u2019s studio flats, which will be built over three and four-storeys.<\/p>\n

The purpose-built student accommodation will feature several internal and external communal areas for relaxation, including; a lower ground recreational area and study space, and a \u2018green\u2019 rooftop winter garden, offering views over Brighton while encouraging biodiversity<\/a> and improving air quality.<\/p>\n

A gym, cinema room, laundry room and cycle parking are also planned, with a caf\u00e9 and retail space occupying the ground floor and basement of the building.<\/p>\n

Sustainability measures will include renewable energy via on-site solar panels, low-energy lighting and high-efficiency heating.<\/p>\n

Inspiring surroundings<\/h3>\n

\u201cWe are also delighted to partner with The Screen and Film School, Brighton to tailor this project for the specific needs and ideas of the establishment,\u201d said managing director of Alumno, David Campbell.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis project, which has been beautifully designed by Greenaway Architects<\/a>, went through a thorough and lengthy consultation process with Brighton and Hove council in terms of the overall design, streetscape elevation treatment, layouts and amenities for the students.<\/p>\n

\u201cLewes Road is known as Brighton\u2019s Academic Corridor due to its strategic location near to a number of higher education establishments, including Brighton and Sussex Universities, making it the ideal site for a student residence.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs with all of our projects, we will work closely with the local authority and residents to deliver maximum benefit to the adjacent community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Screen and Film School, Brighton Principal Iztiar Leighton, added: \u201cWe are particularly pleased to be working with Alumno in offering our students such exceptional accommodation in such a unique and bespoke building.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur students will certainly be inspired by their surroundings, and can be sure of experiencing top quality facilities in a central Brighton location.\u201d<\/p>\n

Construction is scheduled to start spring 2021 with completion planned for summer 2022.<\/p>\n
