Falkirk Council<\/a> has committed \u00a3332m to its housing stock over the next five years which will deliver improvements to existing homes and the creation of new homes<\/h2>\n

In 2021\/22 alone, \u00a323.4m will be spent on housing improvements to around 5,000 properties with \u00a38.8m on improving the fabric of buildings with re-roofing, roughcasting and \u00a33.8m on replacement kitchens and bathrooms.<\/p>\n

An additional \u00a38m will be spent in the next year on replacement doors and windows.<\/p>\n

In total, \u00a37.9m will be spent on energy efficiency works, with around 1,100 properties each year benefitting from new heating systems<\/a> at a cost of \u00a32m as well as heating upgrades to three high-rise blocks.<\/p>\n

Further work will also be done on replacement cladding<\/a> at Glenfuir Court.<\/p>\n

\u00a31.8m is allocated for estate improvements such as fences, walls and paths.<\/p>\n

\u00a31.65m will be invested to complete the council\u2019s programme of upgraded smoke and heat detectors.<\/p>\n

Also included in the five-year plan will be investment that will deliver more than 600 new build homes for rent in locations including Hallglen, Bonnybridge, Denny, Banknock, Polmont, Bainsford, Stenhousemuir, Torwood and Langlees.<\/p>\n

Falkirk Council will continue its programme of \u2018buy backs\u2019 of former council homes purchasing around 80 properties a year at a cost of \u00a36m.<\/p>\n

\u2018Deliver a really ambitious programme of work\u2019<\/h3>\n

Councillor Gordon Hughes, spokesperson for housing, said: \u201cWe have faced a really challenging year because of Covid-19<\/a> however we are aiming to deliver a really ambitious programme of work in the coming year for our 16,000 tenants.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rent we collect and other funding allows us to keep our properties at a high standard as well as planning new homes and allowing us to buy back properties.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis programme of work will certainly help support the economic recovery with a \u00a3330m spend over the next five years.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cThe rent increase is in line with the feedback from tenants and aims to balance an acceptable increase relative to the levels of investment and improvement carried out on our houses.\u201d<\/p>\n
