Kier<\/a> Strategic Projects has achieved the Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon for the first time and is one of only three contractors in the construction sector to achieve this<\/h2>\n

The Carbon Trust Standard recognises businesses and organisations that are taking real action on climate change<\/a> by reducing their own carbon emissions year on year.<\/p>\n

As part of the certification process, Kier Strategic Projects was required to demonstrate how it is taking measures to reduce its carbon across the organisation.<\/p>\n

Examples of this included a concrete batching plant located on-site which has reduced vehicle movements to the project by 40%.<\/p>\n

Using modern methods of construction<\/h3>\n

At\u00a0HMP Five Wells, a\u00a0\u00a3253m new build prison at Wellingborough<\/a>,\u00a0offsite manufacture\u00a0is reducing on-site labour by a third compared with traditional construction,\u00a0including\u00a0all associated travel implications\u00a0to site.<\/p>\n

The facility features solar panels that will generate 8,658 kWh of renewable energy once in use and Kier was able to reuse 80,000 tonnes of material from the demolition of existing buildings.<\/p>\n

Kier\u00a0Strategic Projects delivers\u00a0some of the most\u00a0complex building projects\u00a0in the UK,\u00a0such as laboratories and custodial facilities,\u00a0typically ranging from \u00a335m \u2013 \u00a3250m+.<\/p>\n

Specialising in the use of MMC and leading the way in digital technologies, the certification from the Carbon Trust enhances Strategic Projects\u2019 already award-winning capabilities and comes after the launch of Kier\u2019s sustainability framework \u2013 Building for a Sustainable World<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Becoming a sustainable business<\/h3>\n

James Hindes, managing director at Kier Strategic Projects, said: \u201cThis is a fantastic milestone in our journey to becoming a sustainable business.<\/p>\n
