{"id":88510,"date":"2021-02-03T10:56:27","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T10:56:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=88510"},"modified":"2021-02-03T10:56:27","modified_gmt":"2021-02-03T10:56:27","slug":"m62-construction-rochdale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/m62-construction-rochdale\/88510\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction of new M62 Rochdale scheme underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.johnsiskandson.com\/?p=uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Sisk &amp; Son<\/a> has started work on a new link road at junction 19 of the M62 in Rochdale, one of the biggest regeneration schemes in the region<\/h2>\n<p>The new road is expected to support the creation of 1,000 new homes, a new primary school, and over 135,000m2 of employment space.<\/p>\n<p>The overall development value of the scheme is estimated to be in the region of \u00a3150m.<\/p>\n<p>The project has attracted \u00a322m of external funding, with support from <a href=\"https:\/\/highwaysengland.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Highways England<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/tfgm.com\/\">TfGM<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GMCA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is estimated that the project, being led by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rochdale.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rochdale Council<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/investinrochdale.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rochdale Development Agency<\/a> in conjunction with <a href=\"https:\/\/russellhomes.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russell Homes<\/a>, will be worth \u00a3175m a year to the local economy once complete, with around 2,800 FTE (full-time equivalent) jobs set to be created.<\/p>\n<h3>Measures include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The closure of Hareshill Road on Monday 8 February to through traffic. Access to the residential properties located on Hareshill Road will be from Manchester Road only.<\/li>\n<li>Access to the distribution centres on Hareshill Road will continue to be from Pilsworth Road. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.<\/li>\n<li>The closure of one lane of the eastbound off-slip road at junction 19 of the M62 from 15 February until 30 November 2021.<\/li>\n<li>The installation of temporary 2-way traffic lights on Manchester Road next to Hareshill Road. These will be in place from 5 February to 16 September 2021 and will be phased to avoid full road closures.<\/li>\n<li>The installation of narrow lanes and temporary traffic lights on Pilsworth Road and Hareshill Road from 8 February 2021 to 10 January 2022.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The changes will reduce congestion in the Heywood area and improve journey times for the borough\u2019s residents and businesses.<\/p>\n<h3>A &#8216;game-changing project&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p>Nick Culshaw, managing director, UK civils and rail, John Sisk &amp; Son said: \u201cSisk is delighted to begin works at J19 of the M62 and be part of this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/a629-improvement-scheme\/88251\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">major regeneration scheme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to working with all stakeholders and the local community of Heywood and surrounding areas to deliver the new link road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe see this project as an opportunity to create genuine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/social-value-architecture\/66645\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social value<\/a> through our support of SME\u2019s, local job creation and support of local education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neil Emmott, cabinet member for quality of place at Rochdale Borough Council, added: \u201cThe new link road will bring huge long term benefits for residents and businesses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will reroute HGV traffic away from Heywood town centre, as well as Birch and Bowlee, significantly reducing congestion in these residential areas, while making it quicker and easier for business to move their vehicles between the motorway and Heywood and Hareshill Distribution Parks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pleased that work on this game-changing project is now underway, with construction of the road set to be completed next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd, with major improvements also planned for Simister Island, this is yet another boost to our borough\u2019s abundant transport system.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mk-custom-module-container\">\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John Sisk &#038;
