{"id":88632,"date":"2021-02-05T10:18:21","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T10:18:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=88632"},"modified":"2021-02-05T10:18:21","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T10:18:21","slug":"gorton-lane-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/gorton-lane-scheme\/88632\/","title":{"rendered":"ENGIE appointed to build \u00a317m Gorton Lane scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.onemanchester.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">One Manchester<\/a> has selected <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engie.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ENGIE<\/a> to transform disused land in Manchester into a modern development of 109 low carbon homes, located over two sites on Gorton Lane<\/h2>\n<p>The development\u2019s 91 apartments will be offered on a rent-to-buy basis, with the 18 three and four-bedroom houses available for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/shared-ownership-housing-crisis\/67598\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shared ownership<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>All the homes will benefit from access to green spaces with each house having its own private garden.<\/p>\n<p>The one and two-bedroom apartment blocks have also been designed with communal green spaces in mind, which will help foster a community spirit and provide a space for residents to get out and enjoy the fresh air.<\/p>\n<p>The project will provide much-needed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/manchestr-industrial-regeneration\/83030\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">affordable housing in Manchester<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The work on the dual sites is being supported by consultants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtins.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Curtins<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omiarchitects.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OMI Architects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Construction work commenced early in the new year, with the first site expected to be completed in the first half of 2022, and the larger second site due to finish towards the end of the same year.<\/p>\n<h3>Transforming derelict land into a thriving development<\/h3>\n<p>Ed Carroll, head of major projects at ENGIE, said:\u00a0\u201cWe are very pleased to be partnering with One Manchester on what is set to be a very exciting project for West Gorton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are transforming this derelict land into a thriving development which complements the local community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe scheme is an example of ENGIE\u2019s collaborative and solution-driven approach, working alongside our key clients to create placemaking and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/sustainable-development-rotherham\/83205\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainable communities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are all looking forward to getting started on site and delivering affordable housing in the Manchester area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judy Noah, interim director of growth at One Manchester, added: \u201cWe are delighted to be working with ENGIE to deliver contemporary, low carbon homes in Gorton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a prominent corner site on a major link road and will regenerate a derelict piece of land for the benefit of local people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe bought the site in 2018 and have since been working closely with Manchester City Council and Homes England to deliver affordable homeownership through shared ownership and rent to buy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe homes will provide excellent internal layouts, external gardens, bike storage, parking and our modern specification.
