{"id":89970,"date":"2021-03-05T11:58:50","date_gmt":"2021-03-05T11:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=89970"},"modified":"2021-03-05T11:58:50","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T11:58:50","slug":"passivhaus-standard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/passivhaus-standard\/89970\/","title":{"rendered":"Graham to adopt Passivhaus standard"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.graham.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graham<\/a> has commenced the journey towards the widespread adoption and implementation of the Passivhaus standard and methodology<\/h2>\n<p>Developed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/passivehouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">German Passivhaus Institute<\/a>, the standard can be achieved through the adoption of a number of factors including<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cPassive Design Principles\u201d and a \u201cFabric First\u201d approach, which includes enhanced levels of insulation, reduced thermal bridges and stringent air-tightness requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Its primary purpose is to achieve a high level of indoor comfort and health while using little heating, cooling and total energy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/passivhaus-case-study\/51206\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Passivhaus buildings<\/a> can deliver up to a 90% reduction in space heating requirements when compared to traditionally constructed buildings.<\/p>\n<p>As well as for new buildings, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/structural-osb-panel\/72530\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Passivhaus approach<\/a> can also be used for refurbishment projects via the EnerPhit Certification Process.<\/p>\n<p>Graham have committed to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/net-zero-carbon-workshops\/85763\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">zero-carbon emissions<\/a> target by 2045 and a 30% reduction in our carbon intensity.<\/p>\n<h3>A &#8216;real step-change for the construction industry&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p>Craig Bridges, Graham strategic business director, said: \u201cWe are committed to implementing and embedding the Passivhaus principles throughout Graham.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe creation of a dedicated development group, and the recent graduation of James and George as certified passive house designers, are clear indicators of our proactive engagement with Passivhaus and demonstrate why we are recognised as a leading responsible, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/sustainable-development\/78913\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainable contractor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Passivhaus Trust, a UK affiliate of the Passivhaus Institute, has recorded the development of over 1000 certified Passivhaus units in the UK.
