{"id":90624,"date":"2021-03-18T12:30:15","date_gmt":"2021-03-18T12:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=90624"},"modified":"2021-03-18T12:30:15","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T12:30:15","slug":"homes-england-modular-homes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/homes-england-modular-homes\/90624\/","title":{"rendered":"Joint venture delivers first modular homes in Northstowe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A joint venture between the government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/homes-england\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Homes England<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sekisuihouse-global.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sekisui House<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbansplash.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Urban Splash<\/a> has delivered the first modular homes at the new town of Northstowe<\/h2>\n<p>The homes will be part of a Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/construction-productivity-mmc\/89945\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">research project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Each Town House home has been created by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.housebyurbansplash.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">House by Urban Splash<\/a>, a company backed by a \u00a390m deal between the government\u2019s housing agency, Urban Splash, and Japan-based Sekisui House.<\/p>\n<p>The Town House homes are the first of 406 MMC homes that will form the new community of Inholm on Homes England land at Northstowe.<\/p>\n<p>Inholm is one of a number of sites that will form part of Homes England\u2019s 1,500 home research study into MMC to drive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/construction-post-pandemic\/89397\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">innovation in the construction industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The arrival of the homes marks a significant milestone for the agency\u2019s 2019 joint venture with Sekisui House and House by Urban Splash, and further cements its commitment to MMC housing.<\/p>\n<p>The study will test the performance of different types of MMC to provide long-term, in-depth and verifiable data so that informed decisions about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/2021-construction-technology\/89378\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">emerging construction technologies<\/a> can be made.<\/p>\n<p>The Town House homes at Inholm use approximately 67% less energy to build compared to an equivalent traditional built project and contain energy-saving features including high-quality insulation, super energy-efficient windows and LED lighting, a hot water cylinder with an integrated airforce heat pump and clean, emission-free electric heating.<\/p>\n<h3>Creating a new community<\/h3>\n<p>Chris Shaw, delivery director for House by Urban Splash, said: \u201cWe really are pleased to bring our first homes to Inholm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach of these Town House homes has been created to the highest quality standards in our factory; we then carefully transport each floor &#8211; known as a module &#8211; to site via road, before craning it into place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been pioneering this concept for a few years now, delivering homes in this way to customers in Manchester, Birmingham, North Shields and Salford.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great to extend that offering and bring the first modular homes to this new neighbourhood.
