Drone Major Group<\/a> has launched the first-ever drone technology \u2018test and development area\u2019 project, to be created in the Liverpool City Region<\/h2>\n

The project is to be delivered\u00a0in partnership with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority<\/a>\u00a0(LCRCA)\u00a0and is expected\u00a0to put\u00a0the region\u00a0on the path to become\u00a0a\u00a0global\u00a0leader in\u00a0the deployment of cutting-edge\u00a0drone technology<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0transformational\u00a0project\u00a0promises\u00a0numerous benefits to\u00a0the\u00a0City Region,\u00a0creating\u00a0new\u00a0investment and economic growth, employment, skills, education and\u00a0a cleaner\u00a0environment<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0roadmap\u00a0has been created\u00a0for this\u00a0unique\u00a0project which\u00a0identifies\u00a0key themes,\u00a0outlining\u00a0a clear pathway to\u00a0develop\u00a0operational drone capabilities\u00a0to be delivered\u00a0in\u00a0the fields of\u00a0urban\u00a0logistics,\u00a0the environment,\u00a0security,\u00a0maritime logistics,\u00a0port\u00a0&\u00a0maritime, and\u00a0the\u00a0wider\u00a0community.<\/p>\n

All projects within the newly established\u00a0Phoenix\u00a0programme, which currently comprises\u00a010\u00a0new initiatives addressing these sectors\u00a0across the UK,\u00a0will\u00a0share a common\u00a0operational model and advanced\u00a0data analysis\u00a0to\u00a0ensure\u00a0that progress accelerates exponentially.<\/p>\n

This commercially accelerating approach is set to stimulate Liverpool City Region\u2019s inward investment opportunities while enhancing the region’s global recognition as a hub for cutting-edge technological innovation.<\/p>\n

This is a\u00a0particularly\u00a0pivotal\u00a0time for\u00a0the\u00a0City Region, with the\u00a0Combined Authority\u2019s\u00a0emerging\u00a0Climate Action Plan<\/a> crystallising its decarbonisation agenda, together with the grant of Freeport status for Liverpool City Region announced by the chancellor in his budget speech<\/a> on\u00a03 March 2021.<\/p>\n

The Liverpool City Region benefits from some of the country\u2019s most outstanding digital infrastructure, academic knowledge and individual experts who will be integral to realising the potential of autonomous drone systems in the UK. Such as the University of Liverpool\u2019s Centre for Autonomous Systems Technology<\/a> (CAST), Liverpool Institute for Sustainable Coasts and Oceans (LISCO) and Virtual Engineering Centre<\/a> (VEC), and the drone research group at Liverpool John Moores University.<\/p>\n

Setting an example<\/h3>\n

Robert Garbett, founder of Drone Major Group, said: \u201cDrones represent an unprecedented\u00a0growth\u00a0opportunity\u00a0across\u00a0a huge number of\u00a0global\u00a0industries.<\/p>\n

Phoenix I stakeholders<\/h3>\n

Phoenix I is the first in a series of interconnected projects developed by Drone Major Group, with several regional partners.<\/p>\n

LCRCA has played an instrumental convening role working with Drone Major Group to facilitate the active involvement of many of the region\u2019s most vital stakeholders in the delivery of the project.<\/p>\n

Stakeholders include Peel Ports Group, LogisticsUK, SP Energy Networks, Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) Liverpool John Lennon Airport, the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University.<\/p>\n
