{"id":90999,"date":"2021-03-25T08:21:36","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T08:21:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=90999"},"modified":"2021-03-25T08:21:36","modified_gmt":"2021-03-25T08:21:36","slug":"new-north-walsham-high-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/new-north-walsham-high-street\/90999\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans underway for the North Walsham high street"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.north-norfolk.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">North Norfolk District Council<\/a> has appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influence.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Influence<\/a> to the townscaping element of the North Walsham high street heritage action zone project, along with partners<\/h2>\n<p>The team aim to provide\u00a0sustainable solutions to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/urban-development-sheffield\/90349\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">urban planning<\/a> and have extensive experience of working in conjunction with local authorities and communities to deliver landscaping and public realm services, including working on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.north-norfolk.gov.uk\/projects\/north-walsham-heritage-action-zone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">High Street Heritage Action Zones<\/a> projects elsewhere in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Master planning and consultation will be led by <a href=\"https:\/\/heta.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HETA<\/a> \u2013 a studio of architects, designers and thinkers.<\/p>\n<p>Having completed a site visit the team will implement a programme of consultation and community engagement to see how the people of North Walsham want to see the space in the town centre used.<\/p>\n<p>Other partners involved include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reesbolter.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rees Bolter Architects<\/a> as heritage consultants, BSP for highways and transport consultancy and <a href=\"https:\/\/gb.gleeds.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gleeds Cost Management<\/a>, quantity surveyors.<\/p>\n<p>This work is a vital part of the programme\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/successful-placemaking\/90828\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wider placemaking objectives<\/a>, inspiring people to re-imagine and re-engage with the town centre as the heart of the community.<\/p>\n<p>It will focus on making the town centre a destination that embraces its heritage and community, creating a shared space people can enjoy, take pride in and encourages others to visit.<\/p>\n<p>The Council and partners will seek to hear what residents, businesses and visitors want to see in North Walsham and foster a sense of community that maximises shared value by making it easier to move around the town centre and improve the appearance and quality of public spaces, starting with work which will see the improvement of the Lokes and alleyways that connect different areas within the town centre.<\/p>\n<p>The project is part of <a href=\"https:\/\/historicengland.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Historic England<\/a>\u2019s High Street Heritage Action Zone scheme to renew and revive town centres in England, with match funding from The Council and additional funding secured from the New Anglia LEP\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/newanglia.co.uk\/getting-building-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Getting Building Fund<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Re-imagining North Walsham<\/h3>\n<p>Shona Hatton, associate director at Influence, said: \u201cHigh Street Heritage Action Zones are such a key part of the future for our towns &#8211;
