{"id":91256,"date":"2021-03-30T10:44:43","date_gmt":"2021-03-30T09:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=91256"},"modified":"2021-03-30T10:44:43","modified_gmt":"2021-03-30T09:44:43","slug":"pi-insurance-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/pi-insurance-restrictions\/91256\/","title":{"rendered":"PI insurance problems delay essential work on building safety, warns CLC"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Cost increases and the introduction of new restrictions on professional indemnity (PI) insurance are preventing companies from taking on projects and could delay essential work on building safety, warns the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionleadershipcouncil.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction Leadership Council<\/a> (CLC)<\/h2>\n<p>The CLC has surveyed over 1,000 firms and the results pointed to the widespread incidence of companies having to change the type of work they do because of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/pi-insurance\/86175\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">restrictions on PI cover<\/a>, with a quarter losing jobs because of tough conditions and limitations being placed on them by insurance firms.<\/p>\n<p>Two-thirds of respondents said that less than 5% of what they do is high rise residential, almost one in three were unable to buy the PI cover they wanted or needed.<\/p>\n<p>The survey was carried out from mid-February to mid-March and received 1,066 responses from a mixture of consultants, contractors and specialists.<\/p>\n<h3>The results revealed that:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Over 60% of total survey respondents have some form of restriction on cover relating to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/fire-safety-cladding-crisis\/86202\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cladding or fire safety<\/a><\/li>\n<li>One in three of total survey respondents have a total exclusion in place for cladding claims<\/li>\n<li>One in five of respondents have a total exclusion in place for fire claims<\/li>\n<li>Over a quarter of total survey respondents have lost jobs as a result of inadequate PI insurance<\/li>\n<li>One in three respondents couldn\u2019t do remedial work if they wanted to<\/li>\n<li>Almost a quarter of the total survey respondents have changed the nature of their work due to inadequate PI insurance<\/li>\n<li>The majority of respondents buy \u00a310m or less cover with very few buying over \u00a320m<\/li>\n<li>Almost half of the respondents had been declined insurance by three insurers or more<\/li>\n<li>Two-thirds of respondents are carrying a claim excess imposed upon them by their insurers<\/li>\n<li>Premiums have increased nearly 4-fold at the last renewal, having doubled the year before;
