The lowest 2 levels were situated in a basement,\u00a0whilst the upper 2-storeys incorporated large cantilevers to the external\u00a0envelope of the building, and around an internal courtyard.<\/p>\n<h3>Analysing everything<\/h3>\n<p>SCIA Engineer\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/scia-structural-engineering-2\/91330\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">structural engineering<\/a> solution was utilised on virtually every aspect of the project. To\u00a0speed up analysis, the building was split into 2 models \u2013 one consisting of\u00a0the concrete frame, whilst the other formed the roof. These models were\u00a0initially created by importing a revit model into SCIA Engineer.<\/p>\n<h4>Overall the project itself proved a major challenge, with SCIA Engineer\u00a0proving particularly valuable in the following areas:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitoring long term and short term vertical slab edge deflections.<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring vertical and horizontal deflections at the roof-facade interface.<\/li>\n<li>Establishing movement joint requirements across the slab by\u00a0considering the impact of thermal load cases.<\/li>\n<li>Value engineering \u2013 working out upstand beam requirements for the slabs and member reduction for the roof.<\/li>\n<li>Accurately modelling the forces and stresses within the slab with an\u00a0extremely irregular column array.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Details<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Owner: AstraZeneca<\/li>\n<li>Architect: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.herzogdemeuron.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Herzog &amp;
