{"id":92648,"date":"2021-04-28T08:36:01","date_gmt":"2021-04-28T07:36:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=92648"},"modified":"2021-04-28T08:36:01","modified_gmt":"2021-04-28T07:36:01","slug":"laing-orourke-andrew-wolstenholme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/laing-orourke-andrew-wolstenholme\/92648\/","title":{"rendered":"Laing O\u2019Rourke appoints former Crossrail CEO as technical director"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.laingorourke.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Laing O\u2019Rourke<\/a> has appointed Andrew Wolstenholme OBE as its new group technical director to lead the delivery of technical excellence for clients and enhance the company\u2019s digital capability<\/h2>\n<p>As well as his work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crossrail<\/a>, Andrew Wolstenholme is a former chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionleadershipcouncil.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction Leadership Council<\/a> and was vice president at the Institution of Civil Engineers.<\/p>\n<p>Wolstenholme will lead the function and be responsible for the delivery of technical excellence for clients, enhancing Laing O&#8217;Rourke&#8217;s digital capability and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/covid-19-ventilation\/88238\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">health and safety priorities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He replaces outgoing group digital and technical director, Dr Damien Buie who, since 2019 has helped the company utilise data to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/digital-twins-infrastructure\/70121\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bring its digital vision to life<\/a> and has created dynamic teams in both the Europe and Australia operating Hubs, led by Joanna Vezey and Sarah Crennan respectively.<\/p>\n<p>A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and experienced infrastructure business leader, Wolstenholme will start the new role on 4 May and report to Group CEO Ray O\u2019Rourke.<\/p>\n<p>He will also be appointed to the company\u2019s Group Executive Committee (GEC).<\/p>\n<p>Andrew has been working with Laing O\u2019Rourke for some time in an advisory capacity, assisting with the technical complexities of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/major-modular-projects\/84813\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">major projects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>A wealth of experience<\/h3>\n<p>During his career, he served as construction director for the Heathrow Express Rail Link and programme director on Terminal 5, then as BAA\u2019s director of capital projects running a \u00a310bn development programme across 10 airports.<\/p>\n<p>He was CEO of Crossrail from 2011 to 2018 and has also served as a non-executive director at HS2.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew has a first-class honours degree in civil engineering and an honorary doctorate from Southampton University.<\/p>\n<h3>Technical excellence and disruptive thinking<\/h3>\n<p>Ray O\u2019Rourke, CEO, said: \u201cI\u2019m delighted Andrew has agreed to join us.
