{"id":93292,"date":"2021-05-12T12:48:55","date_gmt":"2021-05-12T11:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=93292"},"modified":"2021-05-12T12:48:55","modified_gmt":"2021-05-12T11:48:55","slug":"nfrc-suspends-blm-british-lead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/nfrc-suspends-blm-british-lead\/93292\/","title":{"rendered":"NFRC suspends BLM British Lead for one year"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfrc.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Federation of Roofing Contractors<\/a> (NFRC) has suspended HJ Enthoven Limited (trading as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishlead.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BLM British Lead<\/a>) as a supplier member for one year, for breaching the competition clause of the NFRC\u2019s Code of Practice<\/h2>\n<p>This follows the decision of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/competition-and-markets-authority\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Competition and Markets Authority<\/a> (CMA) (Roofing Materials \u2013 Case 50477) to fine BLM British Lead \u00a38m as well as disqualifying BLM company director Jocelyn Campbell, for breaking the law by entering into four anti-competitive arrangements with Associated Lead Mills Ltd (ALM).<\/p>\n<p>Associated Lead Mills (ALM) ceased their membership of NFRC in January 2021, and so were not subject to the NFRC investigation.<\/p>\n<p>BLM British Lead will have a right to appeal and will have the opportunity to re-join the NFRC in one year\u2019s time if they can demonstrate they have put the necessary processes in to place to ensure an incident like this does not happen again.<\/p>\n<p>The four arrangements that took place between October 2015 and April 2019, involved:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Colluding on prices<\/li>\n<li>Sharing the rolled lead market by arranging not to target certain customers<\/li>\n<li>Arranging not to supply a new business because it risked disrupting the firms\u2019 existing customer relationships<\/li>\n<li>Exchanges of commercially sensitive information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Lessons can be learnt from this case<\/h3>\n<p>NFRC CEO, James Talman, said: \u201cThis decision demonstrates that NFRC \u2018s Code has teeth, and we mean what we say when we stand for roofing excellence.
