{"id":93914,"date":"2021-05-25T10:21:50","date_gmt":"2021-05-25T09:21:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=93914"},"modified":"2021-05-25T15:02:00","modified_gmt":"2021-05-25T14:02:00","slug":"the-spine-liverpool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/the-spine-liverpool\/93914\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool Mayor officially opens &#8216;The Spine&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Spine has been designed according to the scientific and medical research principles established in the international <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellcertified.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WELL Standard<\/a> to achieve WELL Platinum, it is on track to be one of the healthiest workspaces for mental health and physical wellbeing in the UK<\/h2>\n<p>Costing \u00a335m to construct, The Spine, based in Paddington Village, is the first Grade-A office building in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolcityregion-ca.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Liverpool City Region<\/a>\u00a0for more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p>It is also the highest in the city, sitting proudly at the eastern gateway to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kqliverpool.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool)<\/a>\u00a0Innovation District.<\/p>\n<p>The 160,000 square foot, 14-storey building, designed by architecture and building consultancy practice AHR, stands more than 500ft above sea level, commanding spectacular views across the city and as far as Snowdonia and the Pennines.<\/p>\n<p>In what was their first joint public event since being elected, Mayor Joanne Anderson and Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram took a tour of the building, which included meeting young apprentices employed by Morgan Sindall Construction who helped to construct The Spine over the past four years.<\/p>\n<h3>Delivery team:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Morgan Sindall Construction \u2013 Principal contractor<\/li>\n<li>AHR: Architect (The Spine) and interior designer (RCP fit-out)<\/li>\n<li>ARUP \u2013 Multi-discipline engineers<\/li>\n<li>CBRE &#8211; Lead consultant for RCP<\/li>\n<li>Overbury &#8211; Fit out contractor for RCP<\/li>\n<li>CBRE and Knight Frank \u2013 Letting agents<\/li>\n<li>KQ Liverpool &#8211; Strategic support and marketing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Building layout and design<\/h3>\n<p>The Spine\u2019s layout and design also uses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/biophilic-swansea-project\/91918\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">biophilic design principles<\/a>, with strong connections to nature established throughout the building. The distinctive fa\u00e7ade takes inspiration from the human skin, with the striking Voronoi pattern including 23m individual polygons applied in a frit pattern to the glazing.<\/p>\n<p>The Spine\u2019s eco-credentials are also boosted by three double-height spaces on the ground, 10th and 12th floors, with planters containing high-oxygen-producing plants to improve the internal environment, a large number of cycle spaces and electric car charging points installed at the nearby car park.<\/p>\n<p>A dedicated exhibition space on the first floor will connect via a staircase to a ground floor caf\u00e9 and foyer, while the higher floors, which are circa 11,550 square feet, will enjoy some of the best views of the city thanks to floor-to-ceiling glazing throughout.<\/p>\n<p>The building will be heated by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/energy-modelling-buildings\/88027\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">low-carbon heating exchange<\/a> based within the ground floor of brand new 14-storey car park \u2013 also built by Morgan Sindall Construction &#8211;
