{"id":94261,"date":"2021-06-02T14:46:23","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T13:46:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=94261"},"modified":"2021-06-02T14:46:23","modified_gmt":"2021-06-02T13:46:23","slug":"illegal-gas-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/illegal-gas-work\/94261\/","title":{"rendered":"Unregistered engineer sentenced for illegal gas work \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>An unregistered gas fitter has been sentenced after putting lives at risk by carrying out illegal gas work at several properties<\/h2>\n<p>An investigation by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Health and Safety Executive<\/a> (HSE) found that Dean Mulholland Blues has never been registered with Gas Safe Register, nor was he competent to carry out gas work.<\/p>\n<p>Dean Mulholland Blues of Annand Way, Newton Aycliffe pleaded guilty to 24 breaches of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/pubns\/books\/l56.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dean has been sentenced to a 3 year custodial sentence and was disqualified from being the director of a company for 12 years.<\/p>\n<p>Newcastle Crown Court heard that, from September 2016 to December 2017, the defendant advertised his \u2018services\u2019 on various social media sites using false names, several telephone numbers and at least three bank accounts to evade detection.<\/p>\n<p>Dean\u2019s illegal gas work <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/sentenced-illegal-gas-work\/70632\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">put lives at risk<\/a> from carbon monoxide poisoning, asphyxiation, fire and explosion due to his poor workmanship.<\/p>\n<h3>If in doubt, contact Gas Safe Register<\/h3>\n<p>Speaking after the hearing, HSE inspector Jonathan Wills said: \u201cAnyone employed to work on gas appliances in domestic premises must be a Gas Safe registered engineer and competent in that area of gas work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe gas engineer\u2019s competencies are clearly marked on the back of the engineer\u2019s Gas Safe Register ID card.
