Management<\/a> (APM) has launched a new report &#8216;Future Trends: Tackling Climate Change&#8217;, which reveals the views of the project profession on climate change and its role in addressing the key challenges<\/h2>\n<p>Insights highlighted in the report are drawn from APM\u2019s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apm.org.uk\/salary-survey-2021\/future-trends\/#climate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Salary Survey and Market\u00a0Trends Survey 2021<\/a>, in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouGov<\/a>, in which 2,626 project professionals took part.<\/p>\n<p>The report centres around key themes including awareness and engagement with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/climate-change-and-coastal-flood\/87401\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">climate change<\/a>, the challenges facing the projection profession, and the measures that can deliver the biggest lasting impacts.<\/p>\n<p>APM commissioned the report following a poll of project professionals in 2020 (with research company <a href=\"https:\/\/censuswide.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Censuswide<\/a>) which showed early signs that the \u2018new normal\u2019 of the post-pandemic world has led to project managers and their organisations placing greater focus on net-zero projects.<\/p>\n<p>The report discovers that the most significant challenge for project professionals in moving towards a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/construction-decarbonisation\/86101\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">decarbonisation\/net-zero strategy<\/a> in their organisation is competing priorities, identified by 36 per cent of project professionals.<\/p>\n<h3>The top five challenges highlighted in the report include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Competing priorities \u2013 36%<\/li>\n<li>Financial or investment restrictions \u2013 33%<\/li>\n<li>Lack of knowledge or awareness \u2013 27%<\/li>\n<li>Lack of demand from clients\/customers\/supply chain \u2013 22%<\/li>\n<li>Business strategy conflicts \u2013 22%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite the importance of climate change and achieving net-zero, competing priorities means it ranks joint-third in the list of most significant challenges facing the project profession in the next five years.<\/p>\n<h3>Challenges are:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The coronavirus pandemic \u2013 22% of respondents<\/li>\n<li>Developing the skills and talent pipeline \u2013 15%<\/li>\n<li>Climate change and net-zero \u2013 14%<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrating more clearly the value of the project profession \u2013 14%<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/brexit-construction-engineering\/62088\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">impact of Brexit<\/a> \u2013 13%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The top five measures being taken:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Reducing resource waste \u2013 76% of respondents<\/li>\n<li>Adopting measures to reduce resource use \u2013 75%<\/li>\n<li>Collaboration to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/construction-waste-recon-soil\/92897\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reduce waste during project delivery<\/a> \u2013 71%<\/li>\n<li>The need to raise awareness about climate change in projects \u2013 61<\/li>\n<li>Sharing knowledge, research and experience on climate change and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/biodiversity-loss-reduces-waste\/89182\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">biodiversity loss<\/a> \u2013 57%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Delivering global solutions<\/h3>\n<p>Sue Kershaw, APM president, says: \u201cAs the only chartered body for the project profession in the world, we fully acknowledge the importance of project skills in delivering global solutions to the climate crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrganisations developing net-zero carbon strategies must
