{"id":94541,"date":"2021-06-09T08:45:36","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T07:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=94541"},"modified":"2021-08-04T14:56:17","modified_gmt":"2021-08-04T13:56:17","slug":"north-manchester-general-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/north-manchester-general-hospital\/94541\/","title":{"rendered":"Morgan Sindall to deliver social value plan for Manchester hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.morgansindallconstruction.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Morgan Sindall<\/a> has been appointed to deliver an enabling works package and multi-storey car park (MSCP) and cycle hub as part of the total redevelopment of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pat.nhs.uk\/our-hospitals\/north-manchester-general-hospital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH)<\/a> site<\/h2>\n<p>The North Manchester General Hospital project, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/mft.nhs.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmmh.nhs.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchester.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manchester City Council<\/a>\u00a0and Manchester Health and Care Commissioning, will not only provide essential redevelopment to an estate which is in critical need of investment but also serve as a catalyst for the wider economic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/manchester-regeneration-scheme\/94457\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">regeneration of North Manchester<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>NMGH, located in Crumpsall, 3.5 miles outside Manchester city centre, is one of the new hospitals to receive funding through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/health-infrastructure-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Government\u2019s Health Infrastructure Plan<\/a>, backed by an initial \u00a33.7bn to deliver 40 new hospitals across the country by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>NMGH is at the heart of an exciting vision to improve health and wellbeing for local people over the next 10 to 15 years. Alongside health and care services fit for the 21st century, the redevelopment will provide the employment, housing and economic opportunities that are key to generating long term growth and prosperity for North Manchester.<\/p>\n<h3>The Plan includes:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>A specially built <a href=\"https:\/\/constructingexcellence.org.uk\/the-knowledge-quad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Knowledge Quad<\/a>. Following the model\u2019s success at Morgan Sindall Construction\u2019s work at <a href=\"https:\/\/liverpool.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Liverpool City Council<\/a>\u2019s Knowledge Quarter and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.salford.ac.uk\/science-engineering-and-environment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Salford\u2019s Science, Engineering and Environment<\/a> (SEE) building, the Knowledge Quad will be used by Morgan Sindall Construction and partners including the hospital for its own community health and engagement initiatives.<\/li>\n<li>Partnerships with local schools that will support pupils with their personal and academic development to help them to make career choices that are right for the individual, their industry of choice and the community in which they live and work.<\/li>\n<li>A focus on young people, apprentices, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/furlough-scheme-extended\/76130\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">furloughed workers<\/a>, those who need re-skilling\/re-training and newly and longer term unemployed people.<\/li>\n<li>Integration with the hospital and local community, supporting social enterprises, social groups and charities such as the We Love Manchester charity, to ensure the area\u2019s diverse local population is fully engaged with the educational, employment and health opportunities available as a result of the enabling works taking place.<\/li>\n<li>A commitment to contribute to the city\u2019s net-zero ambitions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Enabling works<\/h3>\n<p>Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed to deliver \u00a325m of enabling works ahead of the rebuild, including temporary car parking, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/asbestos-removal-app\/81840\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">asbestos removal<\/a>, demolition, clinical refurbishment works and a new-build 1,000 space MSCP and Cycle Hub.<\/p>\n<p>Shaun Jones, Manchester area director for Morgan Sindall Construction, said: \u201cThis development will effect generational change for North Manchester, creating new jobs, promoting healthy lifestyles, developing skills and contributing to a zero-carbon environment for the benefit of the local neighbourhood and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve delivered projects in North Manchester previously and we know first-hand what makes it great and the areas where we can give a helping hand to ensure the community and its people are able to reach their potential.
