Morgan Sindall Construction<\/a> has broken ground on a new \u00a311m affordable housing development on Victoria Road, Portslade<\/h2>\n

The scheme will see the construction of 42 one, two and three-bedroom flats on the land adjacent to Portslade Town Hall.<\/p>\n

The new Portslade affordable housing development is being delivered for Brighton & Hove City Council<\/a>\u00a0under the\u00a0New Homes for Neighbourhoods programme.<\/p>\n

The building will be constructed using a light gauge steel frame<\/a> that is to be fabricated off-site, minimising the development\u2019s environmental impact and providing a durable and sustainable structure for the apartments.<\/p>\n

The site will boast landscaped communal gardens, with raised planters, trees, a small orchard, seating and green \u2018living\u2019 walls<\/a> planted with a variety of flora, to provide a beautiful natural landscape for residents to socialise and relax in.<\/p>\n

The team has regularly engaged with the project\u2019s neighbours and have put in place special processes, such as timed deliveries and traffic management systems, to minimise disruption to the surrounding community as much as possible.<\/p>\n

Contemporary and sustainable housing<\/h3>\n

The schemes were delivered for Brighton & Hove City Council as part of plans to build 64 new council homes by the end of 2020, and a wider four year plan to provide 800 new accommodation units within the city.<\/p>\n

Guy Hannell, area director at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: \u201cWe are delighted to be starting work on the Victoria Road scheme, providing affordable, contemporary and sustainable housing for a growing community.<\/p>\n

To ensure the social value of the project is felt within the local community, Morgan Sindall Construction has donated tools and equipment to a local foodbank, with a member of the Southern Home Counties team also volunteering at the foodbank every Friday.<\/p>\n
