Try<\/a> has promised to achieve net-zero carbon across its own operations by 2030, and net-zero across all activities by 2045 at the latest<\/h2>\n<p>The business has voluntarily reported its direct <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/greenhouse-gas-emissions\/81176\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">greenhouse gas emissions<\/a> since 2012 and had them verified to ISO 14064-1, an international standard for the reporting and removal of greenhouse gas emissions that contributes to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/climate-change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UN\u2019s Sustainable Development Goals for Climate Action<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Group is confident about achieving net-zero across its own operations by 2030 through further reduction measures, many of which are aligned to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionleadershipcouncil.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction Leadership Council<\/a>\u2019s CO2nstruct Zero priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Galliford\u2019s ongoing focus on digitalisation, where it has technical services such as BIM capability, will be a major enabler of designing buildings and infrastructure with lower emissions and reduced whole-life carbon.<\/p>\n<h3>Cutting emissions to date has been achieved through:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Using renewable energy sources, where possible, for permanent offices and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/electric-vehicle-infrastructure\/79146\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">supporting electric vehicle use<\/a> with charging points at its workplaces.<\/li>\n<li>Encouraging the use of electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, which currently represent 36% of the total vehicle fleet and have helped reduce average carbon emissions across the company fleet from 133g\/km in 2011 to 86g\/km in 2020.<\/li>\n<li>Promoting the use of\u00a0electric and alternatively-fuelled\u00a0plant on sites.<\/li>\n<li>Earlier grid connections to minimise diesel use on projects.<\/li>\n<li>Operating an Agile Working policy since 2018 and maximising the use of technology to reduce travel and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/flexible-working-construction-workers\/95142\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">improve work-life balance<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Long-term sustainability of buildings<\/h3>\n<p>Bill Hocking, chief executive of Galliford Try, said: \u201cClimate change is one of the greatest challenges we face as
