{"id":95598,"date":"2021-07-02T09:31:07","date_gmt":"2021-07-02T08:31:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=95598"},"modified":"2021-07-02T09:31:07","modified_gmt":"2021-07-02T08:31:07","slug":"victoria-north-infrastructure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/victoria-north-infrastructure\/95598\/","title":{"rendered":"Infrastructure team selected for Manchester\u2019s Victoria North scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchester.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manchester City Council<\/a> and joint venture partner <a href=\"https:\/\/fecil.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Far East Consortium<\/a> (FEC) have selected the team to deliver infrastructure works for the Victoria North regeneration scheme<\/h2>\n<p>The newly appointed team \u2013\u00a0with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bamnuttall.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BAM\u00a0Nuttall<\/a>\u00a0as lead design and build contractor, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arup<\/a> as lead designer\u00a0\u2013 will work closely with the council and\u00a0FEC\u2019s\u00a0development and\u00a0masterplanning\u00a0team to deliver the Victoria North development vision for Red Bank and New Town\u00a0neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n<p>The project successfully secured \u00a351.6m from the Government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/housing-infrastructure-fund-what-is-it-and-will-it-really-make-a-difference\/35694\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Housing Infrastructure Fund<\/a> (HIF).<\/p>\n<p>The HIF infrastructure scheme will deliver a series of strategic infrastructure requirements and address a range of site\u00a0constraints\u00a0that will hinder future development.<\/p>\n<h3>The key elements of the HIF scheme include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Investment in a new City River Park (c.5ha)\u00a0along the Irk River Valley, creating a destination green space that celebrates the\u00a0river\u00a0and\u00a0provides\u00a0new,\u00a0open space for residents.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitating access to development sites by connecting them to the existing highway network, along with general road upgrades.<\/li>\n<li>Securing and clearing undeveloped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/grass-greener-brownfield-site\/61996\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brownfield land<\/a>, including the removal of contaminated land and invasive plant species to ready sites for development.<\/li>\n<li>Connect development sites to utilities (electricity, water and surface water drainage), including new high voltage electricity cabling and substations.<\/li>\n<li>Delivering flood\u00a0defence\u00a0works to reduce the risk and extent of flood zones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The full project team includes:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Main design &amp; build contractor \u2013 BAM Nuttall<\/li>\n<li>Lead designer \u2013 Arup (working with BAM)<\/li>\n<li>Flood defence works contractor \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.volkerstevin.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Volkerstevin\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Landscape architect \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planit-ie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Planit IE\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Project delivery consultant \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turnerandtownsend.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Turner and Townsend<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Lead technical advisor \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/pellfrischmann.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pell Frischmann<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Planning consultant \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avisonyoung.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Avison Young<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u2018Nothing short of transformational\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council,\u00a0said: \u201cThe impact of this\u00a0programme\u00a0of work cannot be underestimated, and without this funding the potential of the Victoria North regeneration\u00a0programme\u00a0could not be\u00a0realised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis early phase of the scheme alone will support the delivery of more than 5,500 new homes \u2013 many of them for affordable rent and sale \u2013 along with a new City River Park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is nothing short of transformational, bringing life and purpose to a long-overlooked part of our city, while celebrating the Irk Valley properly, possibly for the first ever time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gareth Farrier, BAM Nuttall\u2019s divisional director, Scotland &amp;
