{"id":96235,"date":"2021-07-15T11:05:54","date_gmt":"2021-07-15T10:05:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=96235"},"modified":"2021-07-15T11:05:54","modified_gmt":"2021-07-15T10:05:54","slug":"energy-coast-university-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/energy-coast-university-college\/96235\/","title":{"rendered":"Eric Wright to build new education facilities in Cumbria"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ericwright.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eric Wright Construction<\/a> has been appointed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department for Education<\/a> (DfE) to deliver new education facilities for Energy Coast University Technical College (UTC) on Lillyhall Industrial Estate in Workington<\/h2>\n<p>The plans include the construction of new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/largest-engineering-campus\/93691\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">engineering workshops<\/a>\/support spaces, reconfiguration of existing spaces to provide construction workshops\/support spaces, external work bays, a replacement sports pitch including a changing pavilion and a new pedestrian crossing to connect the College\u2019s two sites.<\/p>\n<p>The building is designed by architects <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cassidyashton.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cassidy and Ashton<\/a> and has been passed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allerdale.gov.uk\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Allerdale Borough Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UTCs provides academic, practical and technical education for pupils aged 14-19. The new build and modifications will mean students have access to an even wider range of superb facilities on the UTC site.<\/p>\n<h3>Developing skills in civil engineering<\/h3>\n<p>James Eager, director for Eric Wright Construction, said: \u201cThe College, which was originally built by Eric Wright Construction back in 2013, is providing much-needed education and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/amey-government-training\/89798\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">training for young people<\/a> in Cumbria in collaboration with local employers and we\u2019re excited to be helping them develop their exceptional facilities even further.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of our commitment to the scheme, we have already engaged with the UTC students during the design development stage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will also be providing a live <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/digital-earning-estate\/80865\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">learning environment<\/a> for some of the students so they can join our construction teams on site and put into practice some of the theory they have studied at the college.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have successfully delivered a considerable number of education facilities through the DfE low-value framework and it is always great to see how the students and staff engage with the team while we are on-site through live learning opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Energy Coast UTC principal, Cherry Tingle, added: \u201cThese new facilities will really take the student experience to the next level and we are excited to see Eric Wright\u2019s team start on site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir bid submission was really strong on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/social-value-architecture\/66645\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social value<\/a> and they had some great ideas about how the students could join in and learn in real-time while the work is taking place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe desperately need people with skills in engineering and civil engineering, as well as excellent academic education, and we now have something really great to look forward to.
