{"id":96407,"date":"2021-07-19T11:28:18","date_gmt":"2021-07-19T10:28:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=96407"},"modified":"2021-07-19T11:28:18","modified_gmt":"2021-07-19T10:28:18","slug":"5g-construction-manufacturing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-technology-news\/5g-construction-manufacturing\/96407\/","title":{"rendered":"Partnership to explore 5G\u2019s potential in property and infrastructure sectors"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The new programme sees <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bamnuttall.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BAM Nuttall<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aeaerospace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AE Aerospace<\/a>, working with <a href=\"https:\/\/5pring.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">5PRING<\/a>, to set a series of challenges for innovative start-ups and SMEs to solve using 5G<\/h2>\n<p>The programme is part of 5PRING\u2019s ongoing series of challenges to find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/technology-on-construction-sites\/92470\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">5G-enabled solutions<\/a> for real-world problems that shape the future of the UK\u2019s manufacturing and construction sector.<\/p>\n<p>The 5G construction trial is underway, called 5G-AMC2 (Accelerate, Maximise and Create for Construction), funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/5g-create\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DCMS\u2019 5G Create programme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>BAM Nuttall is leading the group with AttoCore and Building and Research Establishment (BRE). The consortium, 5SPRING, is already participating in a government and industry-funded trial looking at how 5G can help to improve people&#8217;s lives and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/build-back-better-council\/87614\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">build back better<\/a> after the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside BAM Nuttall, Midland\u2019s SME AE Aerospace will also be working as challenge owners to support innovators to progress 5G solutions.<\/p>\n<p>As the first UK SME to deploy a private 5G network with West Midlands 5G (WM5G) Worcestershire 5G (W5G) and technology partner BT, AE Aerospace are well-positioned to assist organisations looking to test, scale and apply 5G solutions in manufacturing environments.<\/p>\n<p>With the government continuing to plan and deliver improvements in UK infrastructure and a public capital investment of over \u00a3100bn committed during 2020-211, the sector is well-positioned to benefit from the impact that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/5g-digital-construction\/68244\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">5G solutions<\/a> will have on increasing efficiency and optimising processes such as remote working, autonomous surveys and real-time reporting.<\/p>\n<h3>The 5PRING programme with a specific focus on:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Plant operations<\/li>\n<li>Remote operation: Operation of equipment and machinery remotely<\/li>\n<li>Automatic visual validation: Validate end results against a digital design, defect detection and product quality assurance<\/li>\n<li>Asset tracking: Accurate location tracking of equipment, tools or people on site<\/li>\n<li>Remote working: Enable workers to work efficiently at a remote site<\/li>\n<li>Machine time servitisation: wireless connectivity between machines to allow for high volume data capture<\/li>\n<li>Site and factory monitoring<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/remote-building-inspection\/80687\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Remote monitoring<\/a>: Machine monitoring and diagnostics<\/li>\n<li>Site surveillance: Accurate autonomous surveys of the site<\/li>\n<li>Site monitoring: Accurate monitoring of remote\/pop-up offices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Revolutionise 5G in the construction industry<\/h3>\n<p>Colin Evison, head of innovation at BAM Nuttall said: \u201cAs part of own trial, 5G-AMC2, we have created a stand-alone private network to explore and develop how the construction industry can leverage 5G and other advanced digital technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c5PRING will give BAM Nuttall and the consortium the opportunity to explore 5G\u2019s potential to leverage innovation in property and infrastructure sectors, and create safe, efficient and dynamic environments for the
