{"id":96419,"date":"2021-07-19T12:28:44","date_gmt":"2021-07-19T11:28:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=96419"},"modified":"2021-07-20T13:25:55","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T12:25:55","slug":"energy-performance-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/energy-performance-bill\/96419\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy Performance of Buildings Bill to assist net zero targets"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustainableenergyassociation.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sustainable Energy Association<\/a> (SEA) is calling for MPs, Lords and the Government to support the Bill which will be vital for the achievement of net-zero<\/h2>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/net-zero-buildings-2\/91662\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Energy Performance of Buildings<\/a> Bill that will assist the government in achieving its energy efficiency commitments set out in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/energy-white-paper-powering-our-net-zero-future\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Energy White Paper<\/a> and subsequent policy statements will be introduced in both Houses of Parliament.<\/p>\n<h3>In its policy statements the government has stated:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Homes should be EPC band C by 2035 where practicable, cost-effective and affordable<\/li>\n<li>All Private Rented Sector (PRS) homes should be EPC band C by 2028<\/li>\n<li>Mortgage lenders should ensure an EPC band C average for their portfolios by 2030<\/li>\n<li>The Secretary of State to take reasonable steps to assist owner occupiers to achieve EPC band C<\/li>\n<li>Non-domestic commercial lettings are to achieve EPC band B by 2030<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This Bill will help the Government achieve those objectives.<\/p>\n<p>The SEA has had constructive discussions with officials within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-business-energy-and-industrial-strategy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy<\/a> (BEIS) and is hopeful of Government support.<\/p>\n<h3>Essential for the achievement of net-zero targets<\/h3>\n<p>Jade Lewis, chief executive of the Sustainable Energy Association, said: \u201cWe are incredibly hopeful that the Minimum Energy Performance Bill will receive the support it rightfully deserves so that it can deliver a lasting impact on the energy efficiency of homes up and down the country whilst addressing key public interest concerns such as unemployment, fuel poverty and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/buildings-climate-adaptation\/96354\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> climate change<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe SEA is proud to have campaigned for this policy certainty over the past few years and I believe that we are closer than ever to the breakthrough we have been working towards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leading in the House of Lords, Lord Foster, said: \u201cI have been campaigning on this Bill for over two years: it puts in place Government policy, so I call upon ministers to support it and give time for it to receive a 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Reading in the House of Lords.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leading in the House of Commons, Sir David Amess, added: \u201cThis Bill will help my constituents to have lower fuel bills and it will help the government to achieve its net zero targets.
