{"id":96708,"date":"2021-07-23T10:22:38","date_gmt":"2021-07-23T09:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=96708"},"modified":"2021-07-23T10:22:38","modified_gmt":"2021-07-23T09:22:38","slug":"zero-waste-construction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/zero-waste-construction\/96708\/","title":{"rendered":"Net zero: Routemap to zero avoidable waste in construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionleadershipcouncil.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction Leadership Council<\/a>, the Routemap for Zero Avoidable Waste identifies the action that everyone involved in the construction sector can take to help deliver a lower carbon, more efficient industry<\/h2>\n<p>The Routemap for Zero Avoidable Waste has been prepared by the <a href=\"https:\/\/cic.org.uk\/projects\/project.php?s=green-construction-board\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Green Construction Board<\/a> (GCB), in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-environment-food-rural-affairs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Defra<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-business-energy-and-industrial-strategy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BEIS<\/a>. The diversion of waste from landfill forms a significant part in the delivery of Government\u2019s net zero carbon targets.<\/p>\n<p>The Routemap leads on ways of generating less tonnage of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/answer-to-material-shortages\/95743\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">material waste<\/a> from the outset and across the building lifecycle. It sets a pathway to prevent, reuse and recycle more, in line with the waste hierarchy \u2013 and eliminate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/zero-waste-landfill-2020\/90803\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">waste to landfill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Routemap identifies the action that everyone involved in the construction sector \u2013 both public and private \u2013 can take to help deliver a lower carbon, more efficient industry.<\/p>\n<p>Delivering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/construction-waste-recon-soil\/92897\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reductions in waste<\/a> will demand change to established ways of working \u2013 waste levels in construction have shown virtually no reduction across all sectors for nearly a decade.<\/p>\n<p>This Routemap recognises that actions by all parts of the supply chain are needed to reduce waste and ultimately eliminate all avoidable waste.
