BIM-SPEED has launched the EU BIM for Building Renovation competition for design and construction professionals and students<\/h2>\n

The partners of the Horizon 2020 project BIM-SPEED<\/a>\u00a0are pleased to announce the launch of the EU BIM for Building Renovation competition<\/a>, which will take place from 21 June 2021 to 21 January 2022, bringing together multidisciplinary teams composed of professionals and students active in the design and construction sector.<\/p>\n

The participants will present building renovation design projects that apply at least one of the BIM tools and methodologies developed by the BIM-SPEED<\/a> partners (exclusively or in combination with other tools available on the market) and that deliver energy savings for the occupants and improve their comfort while at the same time reduce the duration and cost of the overall renovation process.<\/p>\n

An independent jury will anonymously evaluate all projects submitted by the participants, with final prizes to be awarded to the top three finalists in each category: professionals and students.<\/p>\n

The project and the competition concept<\/h3>\n

The EU-funded project, BIM-SPEED \u2013 Harmonised Building Information Speedway for Energy-Efficient Renovation, gathers 21 construction stakeholders from nine different European countries under the lead of the Technical University of Berlin.<\/p>\n

BIM-SPEED has developed a set of BIM methodologies<\/a> and tools aimed at facilitating the deep building renovation process for all actors in the design and construction chain. All integrated into a single platform, the BIM-SPEED solutions are designed to reduce the cost and duration of the renovation process while improving the energy performance of the building.<\/p>\n

The organisation of the EU-wide BIM competition involving all disciplines (architects, HVAC engineers and construction firms) is considered a key moment of the project, to trigger the first market replication of BIM-SPEED innovations in BIM-based building renovation projects.<\/p>\n

Who can participate?<\/h3>\n

The EU BIM for Building Renovation Competition is a free-of-charge competition split in two categories, one for design and construction professionals and another for students.<\/p>\n

The participation is open to multi-disciplinary teams consisting of at least two members from different professional\/educational backgrounds (eg civil engineer, architect, HVAC engineer, contractor, etc).<\/p>\n

The competition is open to all nationalities.<\/p>\n

There is no limitation on the number of members in each team, nor on the number of disciplines represented in each team.<\/p>\n

Each team must use at least one of the BIM-SPEED tools that can be found in the BIM-SPEED platform.<\/p>\n

For the professionals, the team will have to work on the renovation design of a residential building project. The project should be in the design phase.<\/p>\n

For the students, the team will have to use a renovation design project from one the BIM-SPEED demonstration sites to be provided by the competition team after the registration. At the time of registration, the participants must be enrolled in an academic programme of an accredited educational institution.<\/p>\n

Timeline<\/h3>\n

Registration for the competition was officially launched on 21 June 2021 and will remain open until 21 October 2021.<\/p>\n
