{"id":97334,"date":"2021-08-05T10:10:13","date_gmt":"2021-08-05T09:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=97334"},"modified":"2021-08-05T10:10:13","modified_gmt":"2021-08-05T09:10:13","slug":"crossrail-elizabeth-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/crossrail-elizabeth-line\/97334\/","title":{"rendered":"[VIDEO] Crossrail starts train trials on Elizabeth Line"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"aLcMeYeApv0\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Railway Progress: Tottenham Court Road (May 2021)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aLcMeYeApv0?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crossrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crossrail<\/a> has started the trial running of four trains an hour on the Elizabeth Line ahead of the scheduled opening of the railway in the first half of 2022<\/h2>\n<p>The milestone was reached after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/crossrail-station\/88994\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tottenham Court Road Elizabeth Line station<\/a>, built by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laingorourke.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Laing O\u2019Rourke<\/a>, became the third new central London Crossrail station to be handed over to TfL.<\/p>\n<p>The trial programme involves integrated testing of the railway to demonstrate that the Elizabeth Line is safe and reliable, and that it meets the capacity and performance requirements needed to move to the final stage before opening. This final stage will ensure the safety and reliability of the railway for public use and will involve exercises such as evacuations of trains and stations later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Crossrail will steadily ramp up the numbers of trains running in the 42km of tunnels that have been built below London and on the existing rail network to allow the railway and the supporting systems to be operated as close as possible to an operational timetable.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of Trial Running commencing, the Great Western Main Line and Great Eastern Main Line were fully integrated with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/delays-on-elizabeth-line\/67100\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elizabeth Line central section<\/a> to form an operational railway ready for trains to run across the route.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018An incredibly significant moment\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Crossrail chief executive Mark Wild said: \u201cWe have now started the trial running of trains on the Elizabeth Line and this is an incredibly significant moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt marks the moment when our focus shifts to commissioning of the new railway and it puts us firmly on the path to Trial Operations and ultimately the opening of the Elizabeth Line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank everyone who has worked so hard over many years to get us to this point.
