Willmott Dixon<\/a> has been appointed by Spelthorne Borough Council<\/a> to deliver a Passivhaus leisure centre that aims to be one of the most advanced, energy efficient leisure facilities in the world<\/h2>\n

It will be the first wet and dry leisure centre to achieve the Passivhaus standard<\/a> in Greater London and will be designed to consume up to 70% less energy compared with a standard new building, optimising natural daylight and integrating photovoltaic panels to generate energy from renewable sources.<\/p>\n

When complete, the centre will include an eight-lane 25m main pool, learner pool, splash pad and spa. There will be an open-plan caf\u00e9 and reception space, along with a roof terrace overlooking four small-sided 3G football pitches.<\/p>\n

Further sports facilities include a 6-court sports hall, three squash courts, 950 square metres of fitness space, two studios, one spin studio and a multi-use room which combines to create two further badminton courts.<\/p>\n

The project will utilise Willmott Dixon\u2019s Passivhaus expertise, which has seen the company deliver the UK\u2019s first Passivhaus \u2018Plus\u2019 primary school, Hackbridge Primary School, and the UK\u2019s largest Passivhaus secondary school<\/a>, Harris Academy, both in Sutton.<\/p>\n

It also completed the George Davies Centre for University of Leicester in 2015, another major Passivhaus building.<\/p>\n

Spelthorne Leisure Centre marks the latest ultra-energy efficient, future-climate ready building by Willmott Dixon, which under its Now or Never sustainability strategy<\/a> aims to be net zero carbon by 2030.<\/p>\n

Gold standard for environmental credentials<\/h3>\n

Ian Edwards, director at Willmott Dixon in the London & South region, said: \u201cWe are delighted to be working with Spelthorne Borough Council, supporting their plans to create a fully inclusive community destination.<\/p>\n

Chair of Spelthorne Borough Council\u2019s Community Wellbeing Committee, Sandra Dunn, added:\u00a0 \u201cI am very excited that this important project has been given approval to proceed to the next stage.<\/p>\n
