{"id":97576,"date":"2021-08-11T09:40:52","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T08:40:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=97576"},"modified":"2021-08-11T09:40:52","modified_gmt":"2021-08-11T08:40:52","slug":"construction-aylesbury-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/construction-aylesbury-school\/97576\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction underway on new Aylesbury secondary school"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Construction has started on the new Kingsbrook Secondary School, a \u00a335m low carbon sixth form entry secondary school in Aylesbury<\/h2>\n<p>The scheme is being delivered by Morgan Sindall Construction\u2019s Northern Home Counties business for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Buckinghamshire Council<\/a>\u00a0under the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scfframeworks.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Southern Construction Framework (SCF)<\/a>, a collaborative construction framework for public bodies to procure major building works.<\/p>\n<p>The new Aylesbury secondary school will be situated in the flagship, nature-friendly Kingsbrook housing development, where Morgan Sindall Construction is also currently delivering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kvpa.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kingsbrook View Primary Academy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Works include a new two and three-storey 900 place secondary school, with 180 sixth form places and a 32 place Special Educational Needs (SEN) unit to serve the Kingsbrook community.<\/p>\n<p>The school\u2019s main hall, sports centre and external sports areas will be available for hire outside of school hours for the benefit of the local community.<\/p>\n<p>At over 10,000 square metres, the building will boast a number of features in order to enhance its sustainability credentials.<\/p>\n<h3>MMC elements<\/h3>\n<p data-block-key=\"fiqmp\">These features include air source heat pumps and the use of modern methods of construction to utilise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/structural-insulated-panel-systems\/73533\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Structural Insulated Panels<\/a> (SIPs) for the external fa\u00e7ade, which improves the building\u2019s ability to retain heat and boosts its efficiency levels.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"fiqmp\">Additional\u00a0elements include the design and manufacture of pre-fabricated MEP service modules for the project\u2019s main service runs.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"ccgf1\">To reduce the building\u2019s carbon footprint as much as possible, the site team evaluated the design using Morgan Sindall Construction\u2019s\u00a0CarboniCa carbon calculation tool. The CarboniCa tool was launched earlier this year as part of Morgan Sindall Construction\u2019s strategy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/arup-joins-race-to-zero\/86484\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">achieving\u00a0net-zero carbon by 2030<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"brlvg\">Throughout the duration of the project, 30 new job opportunities, including apprenticeships and graduate roles, will be created, and a dedicated training centre set up by Morgan Sindall Construction on site will provide training for local people looking to reskill or explore new career options under Buckinghamshire Council\u2019s Response to Redundancy pre-employment training scheme.<\/p>\n<h3>Investing in a greener future<\/h3>\n<p>Julie Ward, deputy cabinet member for Children\u2019s Services (Education &amp;
