Procured through the Southern Construction Framework<\/a> (SCF), Kier<\/a> has been appointed by the University of Plymouth<\/a> to deliver the refurbishment of Intercity Place<\/h2>\n

Kier will deliver the complete refurbishment of an 11-storey 5700m2 office block, providing the University of Plymouth with an outstanding facility to support its Faculty of Health in delivering the next generation of health professionals.<\/p>\n

The project will create teaching spaces<\/a> with the equipment required to train future nurses, midwives, paramedics, physiotherapists, and other allied health professionals.<\/p>\n

An important development for both the University and the city<\/h3>\n

Doug Lloyd, operations director of Kier Regional Building Western & Wales<\/a> said: \u201cWe are delighted to be working with the University of Plymouth again, this time transforming a building that is a focal point of the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the duration of the project, we will collaborate with all parties involved as its central to the wider Brunel Plaza masterplan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have an unrivalled legacy in Plymouth, delivering for communities in the city and across Devon and Cornwall since the 1930s.<\/p>\n

“We will work with our skilled and local supply chain partners to deliver this important new facility for the university.\u201d<\/p>\n

Refurbishment and reuse of the existing building will reduce the carbon impact and plans have been approved by Plymouth City Council<\/a>, which allows for fa\u00e7ade amendments that will support a sustainable heating, cooling and ventilation<\/a> strategy.<\/p>\n

Professor Judith Petts CBE, vice-chancellor of the University of Plymouth, said: \u201cThis is an important development for both the University and the city, and it is exciting to see it really taking shape.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe University is already the largest provider of healthcare training in the South West, and this will dramatically enhance the education and experience we can offer students across the Faculty of Health.<\/p>\n

“It will ensure we can continue to meet the demand for frontline hospital and healthcare workers in Plymouth, the wider South West and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will also create a real focal point in this key part of our community at a time when regeneration and rejuvenation has never been more important.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kier has started main works on the building and is working with local supply chain partners to deliver the project.<\/p>\n

It is on schedule to be finished in advance of the 2023\/2024 academic year.<\/p>\n
