noreferrer\">Wheatley<\/a> has announced plans to invest \u00a3100m on sustainability initiatives for \u2018greener homes, greener lives\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Wheatley Group\u2019s ambitious sustainability targets and a range of other initiatives will help its long-term aims of becoming carbon neutral and eliminating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/local-authority-delivery-scheme\/91823\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fuel poverty<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Investment totalling \u00a3100m over the next five years will include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a336m spent on new double\/triple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/glazed-home-extensions\/93045\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">glazed windows<\/a> to make homes more energy-efficient;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a310m on external wall insulation to help improve the thermal efficiency of homes and cut fuel bills;<\/li>\n<li>and \u00a310m on \u2018connected response\u2019, an innovative solution to inefficient and expensive electric heating which has been shown to reduce energy use by up to 30% and cut bills by up to \u00a3300 per year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wheatley is working to improve the energy performance of its\u00a0homes by 2032, under the Scottish Government\u2019s requirement for Energy Efficiency Standards in Social Housing (EESSH).<\/p>\n<p>The group will also invest \u00a310m on new innovative technologies to improve energy efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>Wheatley is also committing to becoming carbon neutral in its corporate estate by 2026, and reduce carbon emissions from its homes by at least 4,000 tonnes per year.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Making homes more environmentally friendly\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Stephen Devine, Wheatley\u2019s director of assets and sustainability, said: \u201cWheatley is absolutely committed to creating \u2018Greener Homes, Greener Lives\u2019 across Scotland over the next five years \u2013 and we want to inspire our staff and the communities we serve to help us meet climate commitments and reduce carbon emissions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of our communities are already benefiting from our massive investment\u00a0programme, including new energy-efficient heating systems in multi-storeys\u00a0and solar panels, which make our homes more environmentally friendly and reduce heating costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Future plans will include an emphasis on green jobs and apprenticeships \u2013 including with Wheatley\u2019s partners City Building (Glasgow) \u2013 in renewables and low-carbon alternatives to gas, such as electric and hydrogen heating, as well as more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/electric-vehicle-infrastructure\/79146\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">electric vehicles<\/a> and improved recycling.<\/p>\n<p>Communities will also be asked to bring forward ideas for sustainable projects in their areas.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Devine added: \u201cWheatley\u2019s commitment to sustainability is already making homes and lives better.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur investment in greener living will help us tackle fuel poverty and reduce the cost of running a home and our focus on new and emerging technologies will help create green jobs, training and other opportunities for our customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<div
