In partnership with the Social Mobility Pledge<\/a> and the former education secretary, Justine Greening, Amey<\/a> has launched the Opportunity Action Plan<\/a>, a series of challenges to address a lack of social mobility in some of the country\u2019s most deprived regions<\/h2>\n

The plan will build on work that Amey is already undertaking to deliver opportunity into the communities where it operates, through its school outreach, its provision of early career opportunities including apprenticeships<\/a> and the offer of second chances to those who face particular barriers.<\/p>\n

The report also highlights Amey\u2019s continuing commitment to delivering social value<\/a> using its 15,000 strong workforce, its supply chain and significant procurement power to invest in the physical infrastructure of communities, connecting people and places to opportunity.<\/p>\n

Influencing social impact<\/h3>\n

Michael Burgess, chief people officer at Amey plc, said: \u201cBeing a modern organisation with a progressive people culture, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to be their best<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are aware that there are challenges for many, especially when faced with backgrounds of low expectation from others and barriers to opportunity in personal and professional development.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m confident that by continuing the work we\u2019re doing to embed social value practices<\/a>, we\u2019ll close the opportunity gap and deliver a real change to those living in local communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justine Greening added: \u201cInfrastructure underpins the physical fabric of our day to day lives and is fundamental to the sustainability and wellbeing of our communities.<\/p>\n

“It can bring opportunity to areas that are often the furthest away from a level playing field and where the impact of the pandemic has been felt the most.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a major infrastructure provider that works in a wide range of diverse sectors across most of the UK, Amey is in a key position to lead on the levelling up agenda and influence the social impact that businesses can bring to their customers, colleagues and communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmey has a clear sense of what it wants to achieve and is already providing strategic solutions that make a measurable difference, with inclusivity at the heart of its business. With the launch of its Opportunity Action Plan, it is demonstrating its commitment to go even further as part of a wider effort to level up the country and close the opportunity gap.\u201d<\/p>\n
