{"id":99300,"date":"2021-09-16T13:53:07","date_gmt":"2021-09-16T12:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=99300"},"modified":"2021-09-16T13:53:07","modified_gmt":"2021-09-16T12:53:07","slug":"timber-initiative-cop26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/timber-initiative-cop26\/99300\/","title":{"rendered":"Project to explore mainstream use of homegrown timber"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Experts exploring the mainstream use of homegrown timber in the construction sector have secured funding for the next phase of a demonstrator project which will see the first two-storey modular home manufactured during COP26<\/h2>\n<p>The Transforming Timber initiative \u2013 led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs-ic.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction Scotland Innovation Centre<\/a> (CSIC)\u00a0with support from Edinburgh Napier University,<a href=\"https:\/\/ecosystemtech.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> ECOSystems Technologies<\/a>, the University of Edinburgh, and SNRG \u2013\u00a0has been awarded \u00a31.45m of funding from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/sbri-the-small-business-research-initiative\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Innovate UK\u2019s\u00a0Small Business Research Initiative<\/a> (SBRI).<\/p>\n<p>It will create a fully functional prototype that highlights the business case for using Scottish timber resources in future building projects.<\/p>\n<p>The commercialisation of homegrown timber could prove a major boost for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/scottish-construction-recovery\/81739\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scottish economy<\/a>, while also making a significant impact on the environmental footprint of construction.<\/p>\n<p>The success of the demonstrator project and prototype unit &#8211;
