{"id":99421,"date":"2021-09-21T09:04:58","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T08:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=99421"},"modified":"2021-09-21T09:04:58","modified_gmt":"2021-09-21T08:04:58","slug":"ccpi-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/ccpi-launched\/99421\/","title":{"rendered":"CCPI launched to raise standards in construction product information"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpicode.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Code-for-Construction-Product-Information_September-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpicode.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Code-for-Construction-Product-Information-Guidance_Septemer-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Code guidance<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpicode.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/CCPI-Preparing-for-the-Code-Information-Pack_September-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018Preparing for the Code\u2019<\/a> information pack have been launched to raise standards in construction product information<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/code-for-construction-product-information\/95092\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Code for Construction Product Information<\/a> (CCPI) has been developed as a direct response to Dame Judith Hackitt\u2019s independent review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster.<\/p>\n<p>The CCPI promotes urgent positive culture and behaviour change in the approach and management of product information by the construction product manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n<p>It gives manufacturers the opportunity to demonstrate a progressive approach through their willingness to provide assurance for their product information, and recognition for their efforts to prioritise product safety.<\/p>\n<p>It aims to ensure that disingenuous marketing practices and the provision of misleading product information becomes a thing of the past.<\/p>\n<h3>An eleven-point code<\/h3>\n<p>The Code for Construction Product Information \u2013 developed by the Construction Products Association\u2019s marketing integrity group following industry-wide consultation \u2013 has been built on the principle that product information must be clear, accurate, up-to-date, accessible and unambiguous.<\/p>\n<p>The code has eleven clauses covering critical aspects from responsibility for product information to transparency of information regarding performance, proof of stated claims and general information and competency.<\/p>\n<p>An independent and robust validation process is being put in place to underpin the code.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Time for our industry to demonstrate its integrity\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>Adam Turk, chairman of the Construction Products Association\u2019s (CPA) marketing integrity group, said: \u201cI am delighted that the code has been completed, with responsibility now handed over to the team at CPI Ltd who will administer and run it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entirety of the construction industry has contributed to this work over the last three years, through numerous engagements, a Call For Evidence and an industry consultation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy sincere thanks go to the many members of the marketing integrity group and the technical sub-committee; your input, engagement, earnest debate and stoic determination to get this right is to be commended and applauded. The industry is indebted to you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has been overwhelming support for the principle of the code itself as we endeavour to re-instil confidence in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/plant-equipment-supplies-news\/construction-products-shortage\/91661\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">construction products<\/a> generally. It is now time for our Industry to demonstrate its integrity by getting behind the code, and putting building safety first.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe faster that all manufacturers register their interest and begin the journey, the sooner that users of our information will be able to rely on it to be clear, accurate, up-to-date, accessible and unambiguous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dame Judith Hackitt DBE, author of the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety, commented: \u201cClear and unambiguous product information is an essential element in rebuilding confidence and trust which was lost after the tragedy of Grenfell Tower.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am pleased to see industry taking action and publishing the Code for Construction Product Information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResponsible manufacturers can and should now lead the way in doing the right thing and be recognised for doing so.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Preparing for the CCPI<\/h3>\n<p>Alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpicode.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Code-for-Construction-Product-Information-Guidance_Septemer-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Code guidance<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpicode.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/CCPI-Preparing-for-the-Code-Information-Pack_September-2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018Preparing for the Code\u2019<\/a> information pack has been published to help manufacturers gain an understanding of the Code and prepare for the verification journey.<\/p>\n<p>Registration for verification will open towards the end of 2021, supported by detailed guidance.
