{"id":99618,"date":"2021-09-24T08:28:35","date_gmt":"2021-09-24T07:28:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=99618"},"modified":"2021-10-26T11:59:43","modified_gmt":"2021-10-26T10:59:43","slug":"greenprint-for-investment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/greenprint-for-investment\/99618\/","title":{"rendered":"Glasgow launches \u00a330bn &#8216;Greenprint for Investment&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgow.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glasgow City Council<\/a> has launched its &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/invest-glasgow.foleon.com\/igpubs\/glasgow-greenprint-for-investment\/cover\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greenprint for Investment<\/a>&#8216;, a portfolio of investment projects designed to give a significant boost to the city&#8217;s target to reach net-zero by 2030<\/h2>\n<p>The &#8216;Greenprint for Investment&#8217; is a portfolio approach designed to unlock and scale <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/wheatley-sustainability\/98661\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">green investment<\/a> for the Glasgow City Region.<\/p>\n<p>In June, the city announced that it had reduced its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/carbon-emissions-from-buildings\/84234\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">carbon emissions<\/a> by 41% since 2006, surpassing the 30% target Glasgow set for 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The scale and diversity of the projects reflects and supports Glasgow&#8217;s global sustainability ambitions and provides international and activist investors with a mix of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/fusion21-decarbonisation-framework\/99562\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">decarbonising and transformative development opportunities<\/a> as well as more traditional robust, investor-ready propositions.<\/p>\n<p>Investment in climate action delivers significant economic and social benefits, notably improved productivity, competitiveness, new jobs, reduced disruption and better health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>In doing so, it will ensure Glasgow is well-positioned to thrive and help deliver against its shared ambition to respond to the climate emergency and align with global ambitions for COP26. Glasgow City Region is already a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsb-tcfd.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TCFD<\/a> supporters initiative.<\/p>\n<h3>The 10 featured projects in the Greenprint are:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Clyde Climate Forest<\/li>\n<li>Glasgow City Region Home Energy Retrofit Programme<\/li>\n<li>Glasgow&#8217;s District Heating Network<\/li>\n<li>Climate Neutral Innovation District<\/li>\n<li>Charing Cross M8 Green Infrastructure Cap<\/li>\n<li>Glasgow Metro<\/li>\n<li>Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland<\/li>\n<li>Micro Park Apparel Project<\/li>\n<li>Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Expansion<\/li>\n<li>Green Regeneration and Innovation District.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Delivering a modern, resilient and inclusive city<\/h3>\n<p>Susan Aitken, leader of Glasgow City Council said: &#8220;Our net-zero future is about safer communities, warm and efficient homes, sustainable jobs and a prosperous economy. Transition has to be about the social and economic well-being of Glasgow and its people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This will require levels of investment never seen before in local government and adaptation plans which will be vital in delivering a modern, resilient and inclusive city economy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A core element of Glasgow&#8217;s Green Deal our &#8216;Greenprint&#8217; brings together transformational, investable and shovel-ready projects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From an entirely new transport system better-connecting citizens to opportunities, generating renewable energy from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/contract-opportunities-river-clyde\/94794\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">River Clyde<\/a> and upgrading hundreds of thousands of homes across our city region, the Greenprint projects will deliver the infrastructure necessary for low carbon, climate-resilient future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All cities face huge change. Glasgow&#8217;s challenges are typical of those of so many of our global peers. As cities rebuild to decarbonise, we can be the demonstrator in shaping those solutions.
