{"id":99707,"date":"2021-09-27T13:14:28","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T12:14:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=99707"},"modified":"2021-09-27T13:14:28","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T12:14:28","slug":"urban-swansea-regeneration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/urban-swansea-regeneration\/99707\/","title":{"rendered":"Urban Splash to lead \u00a3750m Swansea regeneration"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swansea.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Swansea Council<\/a> has appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbansplash.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Urban Splash<\/a> as development partner for a number of key sites, including the Civic Centre, Swansea Central North and a plot of land running alongside the River Tawe in the St Thomas area of the city<\/h2>\n<p>Early ideas for the Swansea regeneration have been proposed, which will now be worked up in more detail before plenty of opportunities for local people to give their feedback and help shape the plans.<\/p>\n<p>The council&#8217;s appointment of Urban Splash follows an extensive search for a preferred development partner as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/shapingswansea.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shaping Swansea<\/a> initiative.<\/p>\n<h3>Early proposals include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The transformation of the 23-acre seafront Civic Centre site into a new city waterfront district for Swansea. A mixed-use destination anchored by the beach is proposed, with new homes and a strong leisure and hospitality focus, generous civic spaces and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/biophilic-swansea-project\/91918\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">plenty of greenery<\/a>. Other proposals include a new walkway to the beach and a mix of permanent and seasonal uses and events to create an all-season visitor destination.<\/li>\n<li>New office buildings, new apartments for residents and shared workspaces on the 5.5-acre Swansea Central North site located at the former St David&#8217;s Shopping Centre site. Capitalising on the major growth across the UK in demand for craft-based goods, space for small creative businesses to make and sell their products could also feature.<\/li>\n<li>A residential-led regeneration of a 7.5-acre riverfront site in St Thomas, featuring family homes, apartments, new public spaces and a new terraced river walk providing direct access to the river for the first time in over 150 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"AoT5chDHMA8\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Shaping Swansea\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AoT5chDHMA8?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
