{"id":99719,"date":"2021-09-27T15:37:23","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T14:37:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=99719"},"modified":"2021-09-27T15:43:38","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T14:43:38","slug":"nhbc-report-electric-vehicle-charging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/nhbc-report-electric-vehicle-charging\/99719\/","title":{"rendered":"NHBC report gives housebuilders\u00a0direction\u00a0on electric vehicle charging\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhbcfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NHBC Foundation<\/a> has published a new report looking at\u00a0one of\u00a0the critical aspects that housebuilders and developers will need to consider as the UK aims to achieve net zero greenhouse\u00a0gas\u00a0emissions<\/h2>\n<p>The new report,\u00a0\u2018Plugging in to the future \u2013 electric vehicle charging and new homes\u2019,\u00a0gives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/homes-without-gas-nhbc\/82594\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">advice and guidance to housebuilders<\/a> on the key issues which need to be\u00a0considered\u00a0on\u00a0all new developments.<\/p>\n<p>The government has stated that the UK should achieve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/government-procurement-net-zero\/96874\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">net zero greenhouse gas emissions<\/a> by\u00a02050 and has put many policies in place, including that by 2035 all new cars and vans should be fully zero emissions,\u00a0as a result, electric vehicles (EVs) will become\u00a0increasingly common.<\/p>\n<p>This will have significant implications for housebuilders,\u00a0planners\u00a0and architects since the resulting increase in electric vehicles will require homes to be provided with the necessary equipment for residents to charge their EVs\u00a0where they live.<\/p>\n<p>The report urges housebuilders to engage with the relevant Distribution Network Operator (DNO) at the very earliest stage to ensure that the electrical supply to the site has sufficient capacity for the number of charge points being installed\u00a0and to carefully consider the location of the points.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Plugging in to the future \u2013 electric vehicle\u00a0charging\u00a0and new homes\u2019\u00a0also examines the various types of EVs currently available and the different connecting cables\u00a0and charge points\u00a0being deployed.<\/p>\n<h3>Meeting the government\u2019s ambition of\u00a0net zero\u00a0emissions by\u00a02050<\/h3>\n<p>Richard Smith, NHBC\u2019s head of standards,\u00a0innovation\u00a0and research,\u00a0said:\u00a0\u201cWe\u00a0believe\u00a0our new report will act as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/nhbc-biodiversity-report\/94386\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">essential advice\u00a0for housebuilders<\/a>, developers and architects in what is unquestionably a fast-moving context. The industry will need to be ready to face into the many challenges related to charging points and EVs over the coming years as new petrol and diesel cars begin to be phased out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is without doubt a sizeable challenge to meet net zero emissions.
