Three major UK utility providers, Anglian Water<\/a>, BT<\/a> and UK Power Networks<\/a> have formed a new partnership with the National Digital Twin programme to deliver a digital twin across energy, water and telecoms networks<\/h2>\n

Delivered through the government-funded National Digital Twin programme<\/a> (NDTp), Climate Resilience Demonstrator (CReDo) will develop, for the first time in the UK, a digital twin across energy, water and telecoms networks to provide a practical example of how connected data can improve climate adaptation and resilience.\u200b<\/p>\n

The CReDo project will look at the impact of flooding caused by climate change on energy, water and telecoms networks. It will demonstrate how those who own and operate them can use secure information sharing, across sector boundaries, to mitigate the effect of flooding on network performance and ensure reliable service delivery to customers.\u200b<\/p>\n

Anglian Water, BT and UK Power Networks will use their asset and operations data combined\u00a0with data supplied by the Met Office to inform an increased level of infrastructure resilience<\/a>.\u00a0\u200b<\/p>\n

The project will be delivered through a collaboration of research centres and industry partners \u2013 The Universities of Cambridge,\u00a0Edinburgh, Exeter, Newcastle and Warwick will work alongside the\u00a0Hartree Centre, DAFNI,\u00a0Science and Technology Facilities\u00a0Council, CMCL Innovations,\u00a0the Joint Centre of Excellence in Environmental Intelligence\u00a0and Mott MacDonald.\u00a0It is funded by\u00a0UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), the Connected Places Catapult and the University of Cambridge.\u200b<\/p>\n

Share data across a secure platform<\/h3>\n

Using an Information Management Framework (IMF) approach, which is being\u00a0developed through the NDTp<\/a>,\u00a0CReDO\u00a0will enable\u00a0the partners to share data across a secure platform.<\/p>\n

CReDo\u00a0will demonstrate the capability of the IMF approach to connect\u00a0digital twins in a principled, scalable way to inform decision making in capital and operational planning, reducing the cost and\u00a0disruptive impact of extreme weather events and increasing resilience.<\/p>\n

CReDo\u00a0project lead and author of the report\u00a0\u2018Data for the Public Good<\/a>\u2019,\u00a0Sarah Hayes,\u00a0said: \u201cWe are really excited for what we can deliver through\u00a0CReDo: demonstration that connected digital twins can enable increased\u00a0climate resilience and that collaboration across a team that spans industry, academia and government forms the pieces of the\u00a0puzzle that unlock solutions to reaching net zero.\u201d\u200b<\/p>\n
