{"id":99930,"date":"2021-10-04T12:01:41","date_gmt":"2021-10-04T11:01:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=99930"},"modified":"2021-10-04T12:01:41","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T11:01:41","slug":"project-cost-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-technology-news\/project-cost-management\/99930\/","title":{"rendered":"One streamlined tool will help facilitate construction projects, says report"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>According to a new report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.procore.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Procore Technologies, Inc.<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.construction.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dodge Data &amp; Analytics<\/a>, owners and contractors face a variety of challenges when it comes to project cost management, but they believe using one streamlined tool will help facilitate construction projects and cost management more efficiently<\/h2>\n<p>Conducted in July 2021, the report explores the industry\u2019s perception of project cost management and how construction professionals across multiple regions leverage technology to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/procore-financial-management\/91561\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">effectively manage costs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Participants included construction owners, general contractors, and contractors in the public and private sectors across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, and the US.<\/p>\n<h3>Key findings include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Current state of cost management capabilities:<\/strong> When asked to evaluate their organisation&#8217;s current cost management capabilities, only 39% agreed and less than a quarter (24%) strongly agreed that capabilities allowed them to effectively manage costs, indicating room for improvement globally.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cost management challenges:<\/strong> Respondents ranked \u201cConverting a final cost estimate into a project budget compatible with cost accounts\u201d and \u201cTracking costs for every aspect of the job to determine how they impact overall project cost\u201d as the most difficult cost management challenges to solve.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Most important future needs for cost management:<\/strong> Respondents ranked \u201cForecasting critical costs with real-time data from the field\u201d and \u201cDynamically tracking every dollar in my budget\u201d as the most important future needs to solve with project cost management.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Satisfaction with cost management solutions:<\/strong> General contractors and specialty contractors reported notably different levels of satisfaction with their use of software for cost management.
