John Reid is set to join the government agency in March this year to head the new national hub for regeneration

Reid will serve as executive director for technical capacity and coordination.

This is a key role within the agency’s new operating model for 2026. Five other executive regional directors are also being added to the new model, from April 2026.

The Homes England regeneration leader will head the new hub

Using his expertise, Reid will lead the new technical capacity and coordination hub to provide expertise for deployment in the development process, boosting housing delivery.

Reid has experience as a senior property and regeneration leader and has assisted in delivering complex programmes and housing initiatives across sectors. He currently works as a managing director at Herts Living and has previously acted as director of the Estate Development Programme at The Grosvenor Estate.

Reid said: “I ‘m delighted to be joining Homes England’s Executive Team at such an exciting moment for the organisation. I look forward to bringing my public-private sector and major programme experience to help shape the new operating model and to drive the partnerships and places that communities across the country want and deserve.”

Amy Rees CB, chief executive of Homes England, said: “I am excited to welcome John to our team as we embark on what will be a sea-change year for the agency, building on the successes of recent years as we actively reshape how we work to meet the evolving priorities of people and communities across the country.

“Together with local leaders, partners and communities, our colleagues are focused on mobilising our new regional operating model to best effect, alongside major national programmes including the National Housing Bank, National Housing Delivery Fund and Social and Affordable Housing Programme. This focus is driven by a shared dedication and passion to help ensure everyone can live in a thriving place that they are proud to call home.”

The New Homes England strategic plan will boost delivery

In December last year, Homes England announced the publication of their new strategy for 2025-2030, designed to further boost delivery of sustainable homes and create new collaborations.

The new plan has six strategic objectives:

  1. Significantly increase new housing supply and accelerate housing delivery across all tenures.
  2. Deliver the biggest increase in social and affordable homes in a generation.
  3. Unlock new institutional investment for housing and mixed-use schemes and deliver financial returns.
  4. Collaborate with partners and local leaders to enable development and regeneration that boosts local economic growth.
  5. Foster innovation and create market conditions to support a dynamic, diverse, and sustainable built environment and housing sector.
  6. Ensure homes are safe, secure and decent, and residents are safeguarded.

At the time of the announcement, housing secretary Steve Reed said: “Homes England is playing a key role in building more new homes by bringing in essential private investment and supporting the biggest boost to social and affordable housing in a generation. The launch of their new plan today kicks off a new phase of working together to invest in housebuilding at scale that will help us bring the housing crisis to an end.”
