A £14.7m specialist engineering and construction training facility is set to be delivered in Thornaby, designed to address skills shortages and meet core industrial demand across the Tees Valley

North East Training Alliance (NETA) meets the skill needs of employers in the Teesside region and covers a diverse range of engineering and construction skills.

The scheme comprises the remodelling of an existing building alongside the construction of a new two-storey specialist engineering centre, unified into a single sustainable development.

Supporting the next generation of engineering and construction professionals

The 4,600 m² development will be constructed adjacent to Stockton Riverside College, enabling NETA to relocate into a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility. The move will consolidate and enhance the wider college campus while supporting both the existing workforce and the next generation of engineering and construction professionals.

The project is being funded through investment endorsed by the Government’s Town Deal programme, delivered in partnership with Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and supported by the Thornaby Town Deal Board.

Anna McTaggart, partner at GSSArchitecture commented: “We are proud to be part of the team delivering this state-of-the-art technical training facility and look forward to seeing it take shape on site.

“We are excited to provide NETA with a building that will support the fantastic work they do providing students with high-quality training and supporting local industry.”

GSSArchitecture has been appointed as Architect, Lead Designer and Principal Designer (Building Regulations) and is working with main contractor Britcon to deliver the project.
