A new online BIM training course has been developed by the BRE Academy and CITB to help site managers with the technology

BIM training is to get a boost as a new online course dedicated to training site managers has been launched.

The BRE Academy and CITB developed the course to provide a solid grounding in the technology, which is rapidly changing the face of construction. BIM, when implemented correctly, has the ability to deliver faster, more efficient projects that cost less and have less mistakes.

The course has been developed to support site managers, who are increasingly using BIM, to understand the key principles of it, as well as the responsibilities that come with adopting it. BRE’s BIM experts helped to create the course.

BIM training

‘BIM for Site Managers’ will be available online and can be completed in a flexible manner. Site managers can start and stop the course or redo parts.

It will focus on a number of areas including BIM Level 2, understanding how to improve workflows, how to limit liabilities, how to reduce the risk on deliverables, and how to reduce waste.

Director of BRE Academy Pauline Traetto said: “BIM is all about ‘Information Management’ process and procedures, and the common data environment (CDE).

“Our mission is to ensure that the whole supply chain is competent in BIM Level 2, and that both individuals and employers within the Architecture, Engineering and Construction Industries fit into the BIM Level 2 process.

“The CITB has highlighted how key site managers are in delivering BIM projects, and we are delighted to have been their partner of choice for creating this course.”

Benefit to site managers

Ben Lever, CITB Future Skills Manager, said the role of BIM in the construction industry should not be overlooked.

“BIM is becoming ever more important in construction, which is why we are pleased to have worked with BRE to develop this new online course,” he said. “Led by the forward-thinking team at BRE Academy, it provides the targeted and rigorous training that’s really needed.

“It’s right that this course is aimed at site managers because they have a key role to play in implementing BIM and ensuring successful adoption. We hope this course has a big impact and helps our industry raise its performance.”
