Osborne selects GroupBC’s CDE for Highways England scheme

Contractor Osborne has chosen GroupBC’s common data environment (CDE) to help streamline the delivery of Highways England’s upgrade of the A46 Coventry junctions

Beginning with the Binley junction, Osborne will be working with leading project and asset information management provider, GroupBC, to utilise a common data environment for the planning and execution of this project.

The regeneration of the A46 Coventry junctions is part of a UK-wide, £8.7bn project to improve England’s highly-trafficked motorways and major A roads.

Osborne is one of 13 Delivery Integration Partners (DIP) that are collaborating with Highways England on a total of 18 packages of work.

GroupBC, now part of the Bentley Systems, provides document and information management systems that deliver insights through applications in areas such as BIM and collaboration, GIS and connected data integrations, programme management and assurance, and property and asset performance.

Highways England already utilises GroupBC’s CDE to help the organisation accelerate project processes and improve the delivery of their major programmes. By adopting the same platform, Osborne will be benefitting from a shared solution with common interfaces and a consistent end user experience, further aiding efficient project delivery.

Osborne reviewed a number of CDEs and selected GroupBC’s solution for its ease of use and navigation, enhanced functionality and their proven track record in delivering large complex infrastructure projects.

In terms of project delivery, the CDE will enable Osborne to collaborate seamlessly with subcontractors and supply chain, where the CDE will be the primary project information management system housing all project data securely.

Meeting information management requirements

Ian Holden, head of construction at Osborne said: “Following a review of the CDE market, we decided to select BC based on their track record of success in supporting contractors meet client information management requirements such as those from Highways England.

“The simple and easy to use interface stood out as a key enabler to driving adoption and end user buy in, particularly from our subcontractors.

“The implementation of the BC CDE was led by an experienced information manager who had worked on Highways projects previously which helped us deliver the implementation well within the allocated budget we had set aside.”
