Modular Advantage: World of Modular preview

This edition of Modular Advantage previews the upcoming 2021 World of Modular conference and digital trade show. Taking place on an all-digital platform, this year’s conference promises to maintain the same level of superior education and involvement experienced at previous shows.

Looking Back at 2020

In early March of last year, the Modular Building Institute’s annual World of Modular—the industry’s largest convention and expo—started just as COVID-19 was starting to become a concern in the United States. Despite a few travel restrictions, nearly a thousand people from around the world gathered in Orlando to learn, exhibit, and reconnect. Out of an abundance of caution it was a “handshake-free” conference; attendees were encouraged to bump elbows and use the hand sanitizing stations. By the end of the show four days later, the seriousness of the pandemic-to-be had become clearer. Still, few expected to be worrying about the ripple effects of COVID in 2021…

Looking Ahead to the Industry’s Biggest Event

Now an all-digital World of Modular is on the horizon, but with challenges come opportunities. This year’s convention is set to include more speakers and more sessions than ever before. And without the burden of travel, the diversity of speakers and attendees is expected to be at an all-time high. This year’s convention may be digital, but with the potential to connect individuals and companies from around the globe in new, stream-lined ways, it truly will be the World of Modular.

So, who’s presenting this year? The list is extensive, but this issue previews notable speakers, including Sergio Navarro, Ruben Navarro, and Clara Calvo from Spanish architecture firm Casas inHAUS, as well as Michael Hough from Dublin-based MJH Structural Engineers. And from the United States, John Buongiorno from Axis Construction, Scott Bridger from ProSet, and Shawn Lothrop from Innovative Structural Engineering.
