GeoEnergy Design (GED) is a pioneering engineering practice specialising in high-performance, low-carbon heating and cooling systems. Built on decades of experience with more than 500 MW of heat pump assets designed, installed, commissioned, maintained and continuously optimised
GED is building a legacy of high-performance solutions that shape cleaner, greener environments worldwide. We don’t just follow the future; we help engineer it.
Why we exist
Our work spans industrial, process, educational, residential, heritage, commercial, agricultural, leisure and public sector environments. Each project demonstrates our core philosophy: smarter design creates better outcomes.
The transition to low-carbon energy demands not just new technologies but new standards of thinking. Our systems heat and cool buildings, processes and communities, but our mission goes further. We aim to transform how people understand, use and value energy.
Built on experience. Guided by vision
We’ve designed systems.
We’ve installed them.
We’ve commissioned them.
We’ve maintained them.
We repair systems.
We optimise systems.
Our expertise spans:
- Ground, air, and water-source heat pumps.
- Open-loop and closed-loop collector, horizontal and vertical borehole systems as independently accredited and certified designers.
- Heat networks 3rd and 4th generation.
- Ambient loop networks, shared ground loops, plus 5th and 6th generation heating and cooling.
- Digital twins and high-resolution thermal modelling.
- Smart control strategies and optimisation.
- Renewable integration (PV, battery, waste heat, CHP, chillers).
- Technical advisory, due diligence and peer review.
- Heat Decarbonisation Plans.
- BIM-ready 2D and 3D design delivery.
Our work in action
Our portfolio represents some of the most ambitious heat pump projects in Europe:
- 72.5 MW glasshouse system, redefining the greenhouse energy at scale. This concept is now promoted by every water utility in the UK and beyond, at district energy scale as it delivers the lowest cost of plentiful low-grade heat all year round.
- 5.5 MW closed-loop water-source heat pump for a major hospital, delivering 100% heating and cooling.
- 6 MW open-loop heat pump, the UK’s largest at the time.
- Stratford Olympic Park decarbonisation, pioneering 6.2 MW simultaneous heating and cooling across a hybrid 3rd-generation network.
- Central London 5th-generation energy network. A landmark in urban thermal innovation, providing heating and cooling in the most efficient form.
- Manchester’s heat network evolution. Integrating canal heat and effluent recovery into a next generation district system for combined heating and cooling.
